Treklanta
Treklanta is an annual ''Star Trek'' convention based in Atlanta, Georgia, United States that places special emphasis on fan-based events, activities, programming and productions. It hosts the annual Miss Klingon Empire Beauty Pageant and Bjo Awards Ceremony (formerly the Independent Star Trek Fan Film Awards). History The founding of Treklanta (formerly "TrekTrax Atlanta") was, in many respects, a result of its founder and chairman, Eric L. Watts—who had served as Dragon*Con's Director of ''Star Trek'' Programming from 1993 to 2009—not being asked to return for an 18th year by Dragon*Con management in December 2009. The Bjo Awards (formerly The Independent ''Star Trek'' Fan Film Awards) is a set of annual awards to recognize achievement in excellence among independent ''Star Trek'' Star Trek fan productions, fan films released to the Internet during the previous calendar year. ''Star Trek'' fan productions are productions made by fans using elements of the ''Star Trek'' franchise. Paramount Pictures, CBS, and their licensees are the only organizations legally allowed to create commercial products with the ''Star Trek'' name and trademark. The fan film community has received some coverage from the mainstream media. Films ''Paragon's Paragon'' (1974) ''Star Trek'' fan films have been made since the 1960s by individuals and various fan groups but, before the advent of inexpensive digital cameras, editing and effects in the 1990s, most were on a simple home movie level. Klingon Language Institute
The Klingon Language Institute (KLI) is an independent organization originally founded in Flourtown, Pennsylvania and now located in Kentucky. Its goal is to promote the Klingon language, a constructed language from the ''Star Trek'' fictional universe, as well as Klingon culture. General The KLI has members from all over the world. Morgan Adley Gendel (born 1952) is an American screenwriter and television producer from West Hartford, CT. Career Gendel served as co-executive producer for the fourth season of the CW sci-fi series, '' The 100''.
