Trefl Sopot (basketball)
Trefl Sopot is a Polish professional basketball team, based in Sopot, Poland. The team plays in the Polish Basketball League and EuroCup. The club was founded as the replacement of Prokom Asseco Sopot that left the city of Sopot for Gdynia in 2009. History The team was founded as a phoenix club with a new corporate identity after Asseco Prokom Sopot decided to relocate to Gdynia. In its inaugural season, the club played in the Hali 100-lecia. At the beginning of the 2010–11 season, Trefl moved to the Ergo Arena, with a capacity of 15,000 people the largest arena in the PLK. In the 2011–12 season, Sopot reached the PLK Finals where the team faced its predecessor Asseco Prokom Gdynia. In a thrilling best-of-seven series, Sopot lost 4–3. In 2011–12, Sopot won its first trophy when it won the Polish Cup. In the following season, Sopot repeated as Cup champions. Polish Basketball League
Polska Liga Koszykówki (PLK) (English language, English: Polish Basketball League), officially known as the Orlen Basket Liga due to its sponsorship by Orlen, is a professional men's club basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Poland. It constitutes the first and highest-tier level of the Polish basketball league system, Polish league pyramid. The winning team of the final round are crowned the Polish Champions of that season. It began in 1947–48, with the name of I Liga, and was originally organized by the Polish Basketball Federation. The league changed to its current form, beginning with the 1997–98 season, after the Polska Liga Koszykówki SA, PLK SA (the Polish Basketball League Joint-stock company) took control over the league (the PLK SA was created in 1995). The Polish Basketball Cup () is the annual top-tier level national domestic basketball cup competition for clubs in Poland. It is managed and organised by the Polish Basketball League (PLK). The competition was founded in 1933. Śląsk Wrocław has won the most titles, with 14 trophies. History The creation of the tournament was initiated in 1933, by the Polish Association of Sports Games (PZGS), an organisation which carried out the organisation of national sports competitions in Poland. Format Since the 2012 season, a Final Eight format is used, in which the highest placed teams from the first half of a given Polish Basketball League (PLK) regular season qualify. 2018–19 PLK Season
The 2018–19 Polish Basketball League (PLK) season, the Energa Basket Liga for sponsorship reasons, was the 85th season of the Polish Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in the Poland. Anwil Włocławek defended its title and repeated as Polish champions. Teams Czarni Słupsk withdrew during the 2017–18 PLK season because of financial problems. On 17 May 2018, Spójnia Stargard promoted to the PLK as the winners of the I Liga, after defeating Sokół Łańcut 3–0 in the playoff finals. Also, during the pre-season, PGE Turów Zgorzelec withdrew from the tournament. The 2016–17 Polish Basketball League was the 83rd season of the highest professional basketball tier in Poland and the 21st since the foundation of the Polish Basketball League. Eurocup Basketball
EuroCup Basketball, commonly known as the EuroCup and currently called BKT EuroCup for sponsorship reasons, is an annual professional basketball club competition organized by Euroleague Basketball. The league is regarded as Euroleague Basketball's second-tier professional basketball club tournament. Founded as ULEB Cup in 2002, the competition lasted until 2008 when a new competition was introduced after an agreement between ULEB and FIBA under the name of ''EuroCup'' for the 2008–09 Eurocup Basketball, 2008–09 season, following a change in format. Given that the FIBA EuroChallenge was known as EuroCup until 2008, a new era of stronger cooperation between ULEB and FIBA Europe was set in 2008. EuroChallenge
FIBA EuroChallenge (called the FIBA Europe League in 2003–05, and FIBA EuroCup in 2005–08) was the 3rd-tier continental club basketball competition in Europe, from 2003 to 2015. It was organized and run by FIBA Europe. 2023 Polish Basketball Cup
The 2023 Suzuki Polish Basketball Cup () was the 60th edition of Poland's national cup competition for men basketball teams. It is managed by the Polish Basketball League (PLK) and was held in Lublin, in the ''Globus''. Qualified teams The eight participants qualified for the tournament after the first half of the 2022–23 PLK season. The highest-placed three teams joined Start Lublin and would play against the four low-seeded teams in the quarter-finals. As host of the tournament, Start Lublin gained automatic qualification.
