Richard Stanley (politician)
Hon. Richard Oliver Stanley (29 January 1920 – 15 November 1983) was a British Conservative Party Member of Parliament. Early life Stanley attended Ludgrove School. Political career Stanley represented North Fylde from 1950 until he stood down at the 1966 general election. He was from a powerful family, and was related to several Victorian Prime Ministers (Derby, Salisbury, Rosebery, and Balfour) and various other statesmen (the 15th, 16th, and 17th Earls of Derby, Clarendon, Hartington and Oliver Stanley). His father, Lord Stanley, had represented Fylde from 1922 to 1938. His successor was Sir Walter Clegg. Personal Stanley was married twice, first from 1965 to 1976 (her death) to Susan Aubrey-Fletcher, daughter of Sir John Aubrey-Fletcher, 7th Baronet. He was married secondly after 1976 to Mary Tylor. Cash-for-questions Affair
The "cash-for-questions affair" was a political scandal of the 1990s in the United Kingdom. It began in October 1994 when '' The Guardian'' newspaper alleged that London's most successful parliamentary lobbyist, Ian Greer of Ian Greer Associates, had bribed two Conservative Members of Parliament to ask parliamentary questions and perform other tasks on behalf of the Egyptian owner of Harrods department store, Mohamed Al-Fayed. Timothy John Smith (born 5 October 1947) is a British former Conservative politician. Politics In 1977, Smith was selected as Conservative candidate for the Labour seat of Ashfield in Nottinghamshire at the by-election that had been called following the resignation of David Marquand. Ashfield was regarded as a 'safe' Labour seat, but on 28 April, in an amazing result, Smith overturned Marquand's October 1974 majority of 22,915 to win by 264 votes over Labour's Michael Cowan. However, Smith was unable to hold the seat in the 1979 general election. He was subsequently selected to contest the 1982 Beaconsfield by-election, in which he defeated the Labour candidate, future Prime Minister Tony Blair. Smith was thereafter returned as MP by the constituency at each general election until 1997. John Ambrose Cope, Baron Cope of Berkeley, PC (born 13 May 1937) is a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom. Education Cope was educated at Oakham School before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. Career Cope contested Woolwich East in the 1970 General Election, but was defeated by Labour's Christopher Mayhew. Hector Laing, Baron Laing of Dunphail, (12 May 1923 – 21 June 2010) was a British businessman.
