Traralgon Football Club
The Traralgon Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of Traralgon, Victoria. The club currently competes in the Gippsland Football League. Club history The first published football match was a game in Traralgon against Warragul in 1883, resulting in a win to Traralgon. Mr. H West won the club's Best All-Round player in 1884 with 12 votes. In 1885, Traralgon hosted Essendon Football Club in a game, but were soundly beaten. Traralgon once again hosted Essendon in 1886, but this time Traralgon (8.12 - 60) defeated Essendon (3.5 - 23). In 1890, Traralgon FC's home ground was the Recreation Reserve. After being in recess in 1894, the "new"club was formed in May, 1895, with the club adopting the colours of red and white. The Traralgon FC and the Rovers FC merged in 1907 to form the Traralgon United FC and played in the West Gippsland Football Association. In 1911, the club's color's were red and black. The Gippsland League (formerly known as the West Gippsland Latrobe Football League) is an Australian rules football and netball league in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. It is considered the only AFL Victoria major league in Gippsland. Bill Roberts (footballer, Born 1897)
William Laurence Roberts (9 May 1897 – 7 September 1960) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL). Bernie Quinlan
Bernard Francis Quinlan (born 21 July 1951) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Footscray Football Club and Fitzroy Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). One of a handful of players to have won a Brownlow Medal and Coleman Medal, Quinlan was an inaugural inductee in the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1996. Renowned for his prodigious long kicking, which earned him the nickname "Superboot", Quinlan played his best football late in his career, earning most of his individual accolades after he had turned 30. He holds the record for the most career games without playing in a Grand Final and is one of only two VFL/AFL players (the other being Shaun Burgoyne) to have played 150 or more games at two separate clubs. Max McMahon
Max McMahon (born 20 March 1942) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the early 1960s. After being chased initially by Carlton, McMahon joined Hawthorn in 1961. A centre half back, he came from Traralgon and made his VFL debut in a win over North Melbourne at Arden Street in round four. Hawthorn went on to win their first ever premiership later in the year but McMahon made no further appearances that season. He appeared for Hawthorn four times in 1962 and spent the rest of his time in the reserves. McMahon spent the rest of the decades in Tasmania, where he had a productive career. Apart from playing with Glenorchy, whom he won a 'Best and Fairest with in 1965, McMahon appeared for both the league and state in representative football. John Douglas Roberts (20 November 1926 – 19 December 1965) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League The Victorian Football League (VFL) is an Australian rules football league in Australia serving as one of the second-tier regional semi-professional competitions which sit underneath the fully professional Australian Football League (AFL).
