A transfer or interchange in the context of public transport refers to the act where you alight a public transport vehicle and board another public transport vehicle. Types of transfers Same stop transfer The simplest form of transfer is alighting a vehicle at a stop, and board another vehicle at the same stop. In-station transfer Some transfers require you to alight at a stop, and board another vehicle at a different stop (platform) in the same station. Out-of-station transfer An out-of-station transfer, or out-of-station interchange (OSI) refers to any change of public transport vehicles which require you to exit the station and enter another one, possibly at the street level in between. Shing Mun Tunnels
The Shing Mun Tunnels are a system of tunnels and viaducts in the New Territories, Hong Kong connecting the new towns of Tsuen Wan to the west and Sha Tin to the east. They are a part of Route 9 and the Tsuen Wan entrance is the reset point (As Route 9 is apparently a loop) of Route 9. Construction started on 11 February 1987 and the tunnels opened on 20 April 1990. They are made up of three sections, each with twin two-lane tunnels (one each way). The westerly pair passes through Smuggler's Ridge near Shing Mun Reservoir, where it gets its name from; the easterly pair passes through Needle Hill and is linked to the westerly pair by two viaducts over Lower Shing Mun Reservoir. The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority, also known by the acronym MVTA, is a public transportation agency that serves seven communities in the southern portion of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. Proof-of-payment (POP) or proof-of-fare (POF) is an honor-based fare collection system used on many public transportation systems. Instead of checking each passenger as they enter a fare control zone, passengers are required to carry a paper ticket, transit pass, transit smartcard — or open payment methods such as contactless credit or debit cards (if applicable) — after swiping or tapping on smart card readers, to prove that they have paid the valid fare. Pay as you go, or PAYG, in the context of public transport, refers to a method of fare collection where the fare is only charged at or after usage, depending on the actual usage, instead of buying a ticket in advance. In such a case, the payment method itself, when validated, is the proof-of-payment, with the actual journey detail not yet known. How it works When using pay as you go, it is not necessary to buy a ticket. Instead, the passenger simply taps their travel pass on and off, and the system will automatically charge the correct amount, without needing an actual physical ticket.
