Trade Union Congress Of Namibia
The Trade Union Congress of Namibia (TUCNA) is one of three national trade union centres in Namibia. TUCNA was formed as a merger between the Namibia Federation of Trade Unions (NAFTU) and the Namibia People’s Social Movement (NPSM) in May 2002. The TUCNA was created by unions which rejected linkages with Namibia's ruling party, the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO). Affiliates The TUCNA has 13 affiliated member unions with the following estimated membership in 2017. Namibia
Namibia (, ), officially the Republic of Namibia, is a country in Southern Africa. Its western border is the Atlantic Ocean. It shares land borders with Zambia and Angola to the north, Botswana to the east and South Africa to the south and east. Although it does not border Zimbabwe, less than 200 metres (660 feet) of the Botswanan right bank of the Zambezi River separates the two countries. Windhoek
Windhoek (, , ) is the capital and largest city of Namibia. It is located in central Namibia in the Khomas Highland plateau area, at around above sea level, almost exactly at the country's geographical centre. The population of Windhoek in 2020 was 431,000 which is growing continually due to an influx from all over Namibia. Windhoek is the social, economic, political, and cultural centre of the country. Nearly every Namibian national enterprise, governmental body, educational and cultural institution is headquartered there. The city developed at the site of a permanent hot spring known to the indigenous pastoral communities. It developed rapidly after Jonker Afrikaner, Captain of the Orlam, settled there in 1840 and built a stone church for his community. SWAPO
The South West Africa People's Organisation (, SWAPO; af, Suidwes-Afrikaanse Volks Organisasie, SWAVO; german: Südwestafrikanische Volksorganisation, SWAVO), officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia, is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia. Founded in 1960, it has been the governing party in Namibia since the country achieved independence in 1990. The party continues to be dominated in number and influence by the Ovambo ethnic group. SWAPO held a two-thirds majority in parliament from 1994 to 2019. In the general election held in November 2019, the party won 65.5% of the popular vote and 63 out of the 104 seats in the National Assembly. It also holds 28 out of the 42 seats in the National Council. The Public Service Union of Namibia (''PSUN'') is a trade union representing 23,000 public sector workers in Namibia. The Namibia Nurses Union (NANU) is a Namibian trade union formed in 1999 to represent Namibian Nurses. NANU is one of a number of breakaway unions from the Public Workers' Union (Napwu). Namibia National Labour Organisation
The Namibia National Labour Organisation (NANLO) is one of three national trade union centres in Namibia. NANLO was established in 2014 by Evilastus Kaaronda. After campaigning against government corruption, Kaaronda in 2012 was dismissed as general secretary of the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW), the national centre aligned to SWAPO, the country's ruling party. National Union Of Namibian Workers
The National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) is one of three national trade union centers in Namibia. It was established in 1970 and is affiliated with SWAPO, Namibia's ruling political party. History NUNW was originally established as a general workers union in April 1970 through a resolution of the 1969/70 South West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) party congress in Tanzania. From that time, NUNW became the trade union wing of SWAPO. In 1978, the NUNW affiliated to the World Federation of Trade Unions (WTFU). The headquarters in exile of the NUNW were set up in Luanda, Angola in 1979. From 1986, various industrial unions were established inside Namibia under the umbrella of the NUNW and in 1989, a consolidation congress took place that merged the exiled and internal wings of the NUNW into a unified federation.
