Trade (nightclub)
Trade was a culturally important gay club night held at Turnmills in London founded in 1990 by Laurence Malice. History Early years 1990–1995 Trade originated as an underground club night beneath Turnmills pub in Clerkenwell Road. Trade was the second nightclub Laurence had run at Turnmills; his first was Xanadu, which he co-hosted with the club promoter Robert Pereno. Laurence was a member of the electronic music duo Big Bang when he opened Trade. The history of Trade is inextricably linked with the evolution of Turnmills as a club venue. Xanadu opened in early-1990 and ran on Saturday evenings from 10.00 pm to 2.30 am. Iain, Laurence's band partner in Big Bang, sold tickets on the door. Xanadu ran successfully for around 5–6 months. Egg London
Egg London or Egg LDN is a British electronic dance music venue and nightclub based in Kings Cross, North London. The venue has historically demonstrated a primary interest in techno and house music, however at present a variety of electronic dance music is regularly featured in addition to those genres. Egg London consists of three levels hosting three rooms:, ''Main Room'', ''Middle Floor'', ''Loft'' and ''three outside spaces''. It has a capacity of 1000 and is granted a 24-hour licence at weekends. In 2017 Egg London won DJ Magazine's ''Best of British'' award for 'Best Large Club'. Turnmills, London
The Turnmills building was a warehouse originally on the corner of Turnmill Street and Clerkenwell Road in the London Borough of Islington. It became a bar in the 1980s, then a nightclub. The club closed in 2008 and the building was later demolished, replaced with an office building. History The Victorian building opened in 1886 and was originally used as a warehouse and stables by the Great Northern Railway (Great Britain), Great Northern Railway Company. The building later became a warehouse for Booth's Dry Gin distillery before changing hands in 1985 and becoming a bar. The Clerkenwell area was well known for its gin distilleries during the Victorian era. Gordon's Gin distillery was originally sited in Goswell Road/Moreland Street, EC1, not far from Turnmills. In a bid to try to save the building from demolition, various objections were put forward to Islington Council. A disc jockey, more commonly abbreviated as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience. Daz Saund is a British club DJ and Remixer from London, England. Career After getting his big break at the seminal ''Troll Nites'' at the ''Sound Shaft'', Heaven, London in the late 1980s. Daz Saund then progressed to become resident DJ at the immensely popular ''Garage'' at Heaven nightclub. GaydarRadio is a podcast on Mixcloud streaming service, which used to be a Digital radio in the United Kingdom, British digital radio station for homosexuality, gay men, lesbians and gay friendly people, on Digital Audio Broadcasting, DAB multiplexes in London and Brighton and also online. It was broadcast 24 hours a day, with live programming from 5am to midnight during the week, 7am to midnight at weekends. Love Parade
The Love Parade () was an electronic dance music festival and technoparade that originated in 1989 in West Berlin, Germany. It was held annually in Berlin from 1989 to 2003 and in 2006, then from 2007 to 2010 in the Ruhr region. Events scheduled for 2004 and 2005 in Berlin and for 2009 in Bochum were canceled. On 24 July 2010, a crowd crush at the Love Parade in Duisburg caused the deaths of 21 people, with at least 500 others injured. As a consequence, the organizer of the festival announced that no further Love Parades would be held and that the festival was permanently canceled. Brockwell Park
Brockwell Park is a park located south of Brixton, in Herne Hill and Tulse Hill in south London. It is bordered by the roads Brixton Water Lane, Norwood Road, Tulse Hill and Dulwich Road. The park commands views of the skyline of City of London, the city and Central London, and hosts almost 4 million annual visits. At the top of the hill within the park stands Brockwell Hall. London Astoria
The London Astoria was a music venue at 157 Charing Cross Road, in London, England, that operated from 1976 to 2009. Originally a warehouse during the 1920s, the building became a cinema and ballroom. It was converted for use as a theatre in the 1970s. After further development, the building re-opened in the mid-1980s, as a night club and live music venue for well-known musical acts. There are half a dozen clubs and smaller music venues in the adjacent buildings. In 2009 the venue closed, and was demolished as part of the development plans of the Crossrail project.
