Traction (album)
''Traction'' is the first album by New Zealand rock band Supergroove. It was released in 1994 by RCA Records, debuting at number one on the New Zealand albums chart and quickly reached platinum status there. Before the band could record their second album, Che Fu was fired from the band. Supergroove would end up releasing their second and final album, '' Backspacer'', without Fu. To date, the album has achieved the requirements for platinum status five times over. Awards The album won Best Album at the 1995 New Zealand Music Awards. Supergroove
Supergroove is a New Zealand funk rock music group. Their debut album '' Traction'' was released in 1994. The group disbanded in 1997 but reformed in 2007. History The band was founded on New Year's Eve 1989/1990, having previously been named the Low-Down Dirty Blues Band. Prior to Supergroove's second album ''Backspacer'', singer Che Fu and trumpeter Tim Stewart were fired from the band. Solo careers Notable former members include Che Ness, aka Che Fu, now with a successful solo career, Paul Russell, who still studio drums with Che Fu. Two other ex-members, Tim Stewart (trumpet) and Ben Sciascia (guitar) formed a new band in late 2005 called Svelte with Stewart on Lead vocals and Bass. Stewart went on to form Hopetoun Brown, a two-piece band, with fellow ex-Groover, Nick Atkinson - they released their first album in 2015 and also often appear together as the horn section for other performers including Tami Neilson, Dave Dobbyn and Don McGlashan. Rap Rock
Rap rock is a music genre that developed from the early to mid-1980s, when hip hop DJs incorporated rock records into their routines and rappers began incorporating original and sampled rock instrumentation into hip hop music. Rap rock is considered to be rock music in which lyrics are rapped, rather than sung. The genre achieved its greatest success in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Characteristics ''AllMusic'' characterized rap rock songs as rock songs in which the vocals were rapped rather than sung. ''AllMusic'' also states that the rhythms of rap rock are rooted in those of hip hop, with more funk influences than normal hard rock. Can't Get Enough (Supergroove Song)
"Can't Get Enough" is a 1994 single from New Zealand funk rock band Supergroove. It peaked at number one in the New Zealand singles chart and later charted at 36 in Australia. The song was included on Supergroove's debut album '' Traction''. Long-time TVNZ 2 continuity announcer Warren Thomas made a spoken cameo appearance part way into the song. Awards "Can't Get Enough" was nominated for Single of the Year at the 1995 New Zealand Music Awards, with the song's video winning Best Video, along with four other wins for the band. In 2001 the song was voted by New Zealand members of APRA as the 99th best New Zealand song of the 20th century. "Sitting Inside My Head" is a song by New Zealand funk rock band Supergroove from their debut studio album, '' Traction'' (1994). Released through BMG in 1994 as the album's fourth and final single, the track peaked at No. 6 on the New Zealand singles chart and became the 34th best-selling single of 1994 in the country. Composition and development "Sitting Inside My Head" is a funk rock song written in the key of E major, incorporating distorted horns and lead vocals by Che Fu. Karl Steven, the song's co-writer and co-producer, has described its initial form without Che Fu's contribution as "quite bad." However, after the latter successfully asked to contribute to the song during its recording session, it grew to become Steven's favourite Supergroove song. Che Fu
Che Kuo Eruera Ness (born 1974), better known by his stage name Che Fu, is a New Zealand singer, songwriter and producer. A founding member of the band Supergroove, as a solo artist he has gone on to sell thousands of albums both in New Zealand and internationally. Che Fu is considered a pioneer of hip hop and Pasifika music in New Zealand. Early life Che Fu was born Che Ness in Auckland. His mother, Miriama Rauhihi Ness is of Māori descent and his father Tigilau Ness is Niuean. Fu's parents are well-known political activists, notably as members of the Polynesian-rights group, the Polynesian Panthers, and founding members of Rastafarian movement '' 12 Tribes of Israel''. Backspacer (Supergroove Album)
''Backspacer'' is the second and final studio album by New Zealand rock band Supergroove, released on 19 September 1996. It was released in 1996 by RCA Records. Before recording, creative differences saw vocalist Che Ness and trumpeter Tim Stewart fired from the band. The album is musically very different from their first, being less funk and more straight rock, with a darker and more melancholy feeling in songs like "Dear Mother (Don't Let Me Go)", "This Stupid Grin" and "The Decline and Fall of Us Both." Supergroove toured the album without Che Ness but due to poor reception and sales of the record and without Che Ness, Supergroove broke up soon after in 1997. Three singles were released from the album, " Only Ever You", "If I Had My Way" (a top 10 hit) and " 5th Wheel".
