Tour Of Southland
The Tour of Southland is a road bicycle racing stage race A race stage, leg, or heat is a unit of a race that has been divided in several parts for the reason such as length of the distance to be covered, as in a multi-day event. Usually, such a race consists of "ordinary" stages, but sometimes stages ... held in the Southland region of New Zealand. From 2005 until 2009, the Tour of Southland has been part of the UCI Oceania Tour however the 2010 event was held as a National Tour. The Tour is held annually in November. The race is organised and delivered by Cycling Southland. The race's title sponsor is SBS Bank, a New Zealand bank, which is the country's largest building society. Brian Fowler (cyclist)
Brian Andrew Fowler (born 13 September 1962) is a retired cyclist who represented New Zealand at four consecutive Summer Olympics, starting in 1984. In 1983, he rode Paris–Nice finishing 43rd. He won six medals (one gold, four silvers, one bronze) at four consecutive Commonwealth Games. Fowler's finest hour came when he won the gold medal in the men's team time trial at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. Fowler won the Tour of Southland a record eight times. He also holds the record for number of wins in the Tour of Wellington, with four consecutive successes. In February 2021, suffered a series of Myocardial infarctions requiring extensive hospitalization. Gordon McCauley
Gordon McCauley (born 9 March 1972) is a New Zealand cyclist. He has won the men's New Zealand road race championships a record five times and the New Zealand time trial championships a record three times. He was also the first New Zealander to break the 50 minute barrier for the 40 km time trial, recording a time of 49 minutes 50 seconds at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, winning the bronze medal. He is the only rider ever to hold New Zealand Road, Time Trial and Criterium Titles (although on different years). Eric McKenzie (born 28 August 1958) is a New Zealand former professional racing cyclist. He won the 1979 Tour of Southland and rode in four editions of the Tour de France (1982, 1983, 1984 and 1985). In the 1982 Tour de France he finished fifth in two stages and in 1983 Tour de France achieved stage finishes of third and fourth. Blair Goldesbrough Stockwell (born 17 December 1949) is a former racing cyclist & business owner from New Zealand. He won three bronze medals representing New Zealand at the Commonwealth Games. Cycling career At the 1970 British Commonwealth Games he won the bronze medal in the men's individual pursuit over 4000 m.
