Toton Traction Maintenance Depot or Toton Sidings is a large traction maintenance depot located in Toton, Nottinghamshire. The TOPS depot code for the depot is TO. Before TOPS, the shed code was 16A (18A prior to 1963). Prior to the 2021 Integrated Rail Plan for the North and Midlands, the site was the proposed location of the East Midlands Hub railway station on the Leeds Branch of High Speed 2, HS2. Toton is a large suburban village in the Borough of Broxtowe in Nottinghamshire, England. It forms part of the built-up area of Beeston, Nottinghamshire, Beeston, which in turn forms part of the wider Nottingham Urban Area. The population of the electoral ward of ''Toton and Chilwell Meadows'' was 7,298 in the 2001 census; it increased to 8,238 at the 2011 census. Until 1974, Toton was part of Beeston and Stapleford Urban District, having been in Stapleford Rural District until 1935. The border with Derbyshire lies immediately to the west. Trent Junction
Trent railway station was situated near Long Eaton in Derbyshire at the junction of the Midland Railway line from London to Derby and Nottingham. It was unusual in that it did not serve any community, being simply an interchange. The complex network of tracks in this area is popularly known as Trent Junction, though strictly this was the junction of the Derby and the Leicester line at the south of the triangular layout, later renamed Trent South. It was built in 1839 by the Midland Counties Railway which linked Derby and Nottingham with Leicester and thence to London St Pancras. British Rail Class 60
The British Rail Class 60 is a class of Co-Co locomotives, Co-Co heavy freight diesel-electric locomotives built by Brush Traction. They are nicknamed ''Tugs'' by rail enthusiasts. During the 1980s, it became increasingly apparent that British Rail required a more capable British Rail locomotive and multiple unit numbering and classification#1957 numbering and classification, Type 5 locomotive for its heavy freight trains. Dissatisfaction with the British Rail Class 56's reliability led to the stipulation of a 95 per cent availability, a stringent requirement at the time. British Rail Class 58
The British Rail Class 58 is a class of Co-Co locomotives, Co-Co diesel locomotive designed for heavy freight. The narrow body with cabs at either end led to them being given the nickname "Bone" by railfan, rail enthusiasts. British Rail Class 56
The British Rail Class 56 is a type of diesel locomotive designed for heavy freight work.
