The Archipini are a tribe of tortrix moths. Since many genera of these are not yet assigned to tribes, the genus list presented here is provisional. Diversity Archipini is the largest tribe in the Tortricinae subfamily, containing over 1,600 described species in about 150 genera. Distribution Archipini are found in all ecoregions, although there are only few species in the Neotropical realm. Biology Many of the economically important pests among the tortrix moths belong to this tribe, for example the Light brown apple moth and the spruce budworms. The larvae are often polyphagous. Julius Von Kennel
Julius von Kennel (10 June 1854 – 24 January 1939) was a German zoologist and entomologist born in Schwegenheim. He studied at the University of Würzburg, where he came under the influence of zoologist Karl Semper (1832-1893). Later, he worked as an assistant to Karl August Möbius (1825-1908) at the University of Kiel, and following his habilitation, he returned to the University of Würzburg. In 1882-83 he participated on a research expedition to Trinidad and Venezuela (including the Orinoco River region). Later, he served as a lecturer at the ''Forstakademie'' in Aschaffenburg, and from 1887 to 1915, was a full professor of zoology at the University of Dorpat. Kennel was an authority on Microlepidoptera, and in particular the family- Tortricidae (tortrix moths). In 1898-99 he was president of the Estonian Naturalists' Society, and in 1922 became director of the zoological museum in Riga. Józef Razowski (born 4 April 1932) is a Polish entomologist and lepidopterist specializing in Tortricidae. He is an honorary member of the Polish Entomological Society and a working member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU). From 1988 to 1997, Razowski headed the Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals. Biography Józef Razowski was born in Milówka, a village in the southern part of Poland. After finishing engineering studies at the Tadeusz Kościuszko University of Technology in 1953, he started working at the Faculty of the Systematic Zoology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) a year later, of which he was director from 1988 to 1997. The Institute was later renamed the Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals In the meantime, he pursued further studies at Jagiellonian University, getting his master's degree in 1958 and a PhD in 1961. The Tortricidae are a family of moths, commonly known as tortrix moths or leafroller moths, in the order Lepidoptera. This large family has over 11,000 species described, and is the sole member of the superfamily Tortricoidea, although the genus '' Heliocosma'' is sometimes placed within this superfamily.
