Gisle Torvik
Gisle Torvik (born 2 June 1975) is a Norwegian jazz musician (guitar) from Tørvikbygd in Hardanger. Career Torvik was born in Bergen, and spent three years studying music at the Nordic Institute of Stage and Studio (Oslo, 1995–98) with a major in guitar and composition. He is considered one of the most talented Nordic jazz guitarists.OnYourStage, 2009, p. 1 Torvik released his first album in 1999 called ''Naken uten gitar'' (which translates to "Naked without guitar"), where Sigmund Groven, Petter Wettre, Frode Berg, Endre Christiansen and Torstein Lofthus contributed. The album ''Frozen Moment'' was released in 2009 (ten years after his initial album) featuring Hilde Norbakken (on vocals and piano), to good reviews. Otto Torvik
Otto Torvik (12 June 1901 – 8 April 1988) was a Norwegian missionary in Xinjiang and in India. He founded the Norwegian Missionary Muhammad Mission (''Den Norske Muhammedanermisjon'') in 1940. Today, the name is changed to Christian Muslim Mission (''Kristen Muslimmisjon''). Biography Otto Torvik was born in Bolsøy Municipality, just east of the town of Molde in Romsdal, Norway. His father, Ingebrigt Taraldsen from Torvik in Romsdal, was a farmer and lay preacher. His mother was sick when Torvik was born, and she prayed that his son would to be used in the service of God. He attended Rauma Folkehøgskole near Molde, where Torvik first heard of the overseas missions. The missionary call grew in him and he continued to study at Fjellhaug Internasjonale Høgskole in Oslo which was run by the Norwegian Lutheran China Mission Association. Ansgar Torvik
Ansgar Torvik (9 June 1925 – 18 August 2019) was a Norwegian physician. He was born in Lesja and finished his secondary education in 1945. He took the dr.med. degree at the University of Oslo in 1958. He also studied in Sweden, and was a research fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
