''Torrents of Steel'' () is a 1967 Soviet war drama film directed by Efim Dzigan based on the eponymous story by Alexander Serafimovich. Plot The plot is based on a heavy campaign by the Taman Army through the areas occupied by the White Army. The film is set during the summer of 1918, the beginning of the Russian Civil War. Viktor Leonidovich Pokrovsky () (14 September 1889 – 9 November 1922) was a Russian lieutenant general and one of the leaders of anti-communist counterrevolutionary White Army during the Russian Civil War. Biography Viktor Pokrovsky graduated from Pavlovsk army cadet and Sevastopol aviation military schools. He served in the Russian army during First World War as a pilot and was awarded Order of St. George for bravery. Russian Civil War In December 1917, after the October Revolution, Kuban Ataman Filimonov supported the formation of a volunteer unit under the command of Pokrovsky. On 4 and 6 February, his men won two victories over the Bolsheviks at Enem and Georgie-Afipskaia, killing the Bolshevik leaders Iakovlev and Seradze. Nikolay Nikolaevich Trofimov (; 21 January 1920, Sevastopol — 7 November 2005, St. Petersburg) was a Soviet and Russian theater and film actor. People's Artist of the USSR (1990). Biography Nikolay Trofimov was born into a working-class family. Stage career began in 1934. During the Great Patriotic War he served in the navy. On the stage Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater played more than 40 roles. In the cinema, Nikolai Trofimov played mostly small roles. Nikolay Nikolaevich Trofimov died on the night of 7 November 2005 in the St. Petersburg Alexandrovsky hospital from the consequences of a stroke. He was buried on 14 November at the Literary Sheds of Volkovskoye Cemetery. Anton Ivanovich Denikin (, ; – 7 August 1947) was a Russian military leader who served as the Supreme Ruler of Russia, acting supreme ruler of the Russian State and the commander-in-chief of the White movement–aligned armed forces of South Russia (1919–1920), South Russia during the Russian Civil War of 1917–1923. Previously, he was a general in the Imperial Russian Army during World War I. Vladimir Sergeyevich Ivashov (; 28 August 1939 — 23 March 1995) was a Soviet and Russian actor. Biography He had a film career that spanned over 30 years. He is best known for his role as Pvt. Alyosha Skvortsov in '' Ballad of a Soldier'' which he starred in with Zhanna Prokhorenko in 1959. The film was awarded the Moscow International Film Festival award in 1960. It also won the Lenin Award. The film was kept in the film hall of The Kremlin to be shown to foreign guests. Ivashov died in Moscow, Russia, on 23 March 1995 of acute gastric ulcer at the age of 55.
