Torre Del Mangano
Torre del Mangano is a frazione and the seat of the municipality of the Certosa di Pavia comune. The comune bore the name of Torre del Mangano until 1929, when the villages of Borgarello, Torriano and Torre del Mangano merged. They assumed the name of Certosa di Pavia because of the great notoriety of the charterhouse located in the nearby. The church of the local parish is dedicated to Saint Michael. Certosa Di Pavia
The Certosa di Pavia is a monastery complex in Lombardy, Northern Italy, situated near a small village of the same name in the Province of Pavia, north of Pavia. Built from 1396 to 1495, it was once located at the end of the Visconti Park a large hunting park and pleasure ground belonging to the Visconti dukes of Milan, of which today only scattered parts remain. It is one of the largest monasteries in Italy. ''Certosa'' is the Italian translation of Charterhouse: a monastery of the cloistered monastic order of Carthusians founded by St. Bruno in 1044 at Grande Chartreuse. Visconti Park
Visconti Park (Parco Visconteo in Italian) was the private park of the Visconti of Milan, Visconti and House of Sforza, Sforza families, lords, and dukes of Milan. Located in Lombardy, northern Italy, it extended between Visconti Castle (Pavia), Pavia Castle and the Certosa di Pavia monastery. It covered an area of about and was encircled by walls about in length. It was founded in 1360 by Galeazzo II Visconti and enlarged by his son Gian Galeazzo Visconti, Gian Galeazzo. It was used for hunting and as a pleasure ground with various features. Its decay began in 1525 with the damages inflicted during the important Battle of Pavia, which was largely fought (by over 50,000 troops) inside the park. Today, the park's old area is mainly farmland, while some portions are nature reserves.
