Toronto Paramedic Association
The Toronto Paramedic Association (TPA) was founded in 1992 to represent the interests of paramedics employed by Toronto Paramedic Services (TPS). During initial stages of development, membership consisted largely of Advanced Care Practitioners. Over time the TPA has grown to include membership from all practitioner levels within TEMS. The Toronto Paramedic Association is a part of the Ontario Paramedic Association (OPA). The OPA has 2,800 members and is a part of the Paramedic Association of Canada, which has over 14,000 members. The Toronto Paramedic Association is not a labor representative. The labor interests of members are represented by Canadian Union of Public Employees, CUPE Local 416. Toronto Paramedic Services
The City of Toronto Paramedic Services (TPS; formerly known as Toronto Emergency Medical Services) is the statutory emergency medical services provider in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The service is operated as a division of the City of Toronto, under the Community & Social Services cluster. The service is funded by the municipal tax base, and operates similarly to other municipal divisions, such as the Toronto Parks, Forestry & Recreation division, or the Toronto Water division, but retains operational independence from other divisions. While under municipal government control, it is subject to provincial legislation and licensing. Founded in June 1988 as the Canadian Society of Ambulance Personnel (CSAP), the PAC is the national voice of paramedicine which supports paramedicine practitioners in providing high quality health care to patients.
