Toranja
Toranja is a Portuguese rock band with a flair for lyrics with a rebellious tone. Their first album "Esquissos" was greeted with some acclaim in Portugal. "Segundo" is the title of their second album ("Segundo" means "second" in Portuguese) – which established Toranja as one of the relevant names of the new generation of Portuguese bands at the time. The band paused their activities in 2006, for undetermined time. However, its musicians are still in the music scene, each one with their own projects. Tiago de Albergaria Pinheiro Goulart de Bettencourt (born 16 September 1979) is a Portuguese singer-songwriter. Personal life Tiago Bettencourt was born in Coimbra and later moved to Lisbon. His father was born in São Jorge Island, Azores; his mother is from Coimbra. Together with his brother, João, he attended the Colégio D. Luísa Sigea in Estoril. His mother was a teacher of Portuguese at the Salesian School in Estoril. Later on he attended Liceu S. João and got a degree in architecture from Universidade Lusiada. Toranja Bettencourt was the lead singer of the band Toranja. In 2003, they released their debut album ''Esquissos'', which sold over 60,000 copies. Maria Isabel Rebelo Couto da Cruz Roseta (born 2 December 1981), known professionally as Cuca Roseta, is a Portuguese fado singer, composer, and model. Roseta is considered one of the most important fado representatives of her generation, appearing early in her career in the movie '' Fados'' by Spanish director Carlos Saura. Fado, a musical genre that originated in Lisbon in the early 19th century, is traditionally characterized by feelings of resignation and melancholia, but Roseta's style also incorporates more upbeat influences from world music. She has released seven studio albums with producers including Gustavo Santaolalla and Nelson Motta, has toured extensively, and collaborated with different artists including David Bisbal, Karl Jenkins, and Stewart Sukuma.
