Toppeladugård Castle
Toppeladugård Castle ( sv, Toppeladugårds slott) is a manor house at Lund Municipality in Scania, Sweden. Several of the adjoining buildings, as well as the park around the castle, originate from the 18th-century. History Originally, Toppeladugård was a smaller farm. Toppeladugård was originally an outbuilding under Häckeberga Castle. In 1720, the property was bought by Christina Piper (1673–1752) who had the first castle built and the Baroque garden created around it. In 1918, Toppeladugård was acquired by Johan Kuylenstierna. The old three-story buildings were in poor condition at the time of the acquisition and he soon had the main building and the west wing demolished. The current Renaissance style building was erected in 1918–20 the basis of the designs of Lars Johan Lehming (1871–1940). Lund Municipality
Lund Municipality ( sv, Lunds kommun) is a municipality in Scania County, southern Sweden. Its seat is the city of Lund. As most municipalities in Sweden, the territory of municipality consists of many former local government units, united in a series of amalgamations. The number of original entities (as of 1863) is 22. At the time of the nationwide municipal reform of 1952 the number had been reduced to six. In 1967 the rural municipality ''Torn'' (itself created in 1952) was added to Lund. The ''City of Lund'' was made a unitary municipality in 1971 and amalgamated with ''Dalby'', ''Genarp'', ''Södra Sandby'' and ''Veberöd'' in 1974 completing the process. Since 2016, the municipality is subdivided into 16 districts for the purposes of population and land registration. Scania
Scania, also known by its native name of Skåne (, ), is the southernmost of the historical provinces (''landskap'') of Sweden. Christina Piper
Christina Piper, née ''Törne'' (1673 in Stockholm – 1752 in Krageholm Castle, Scania), was a Swedish countess, landowner and entrepreneur, married to the statesman and military count Carl Piper. During the tenure of her spouse in office, she played a considerable political role. Christina Piper became known in history as a landowner and builder. She is known as one of the most successful female entrepreneurs in contemporary Scandinavia, and as one of the greatest builders in the history of Scania. Biography Christina Piper was born to the very wealthy merchant and city official Olof Hansson Törne and Margareta Andersen. Her father was ennobled by the name ''Törnflycht'' in 1698, but as she married eight years before this, she never wore that name herself. Baroque Garden
The Baroque garden was a style of garden based upon symmetry and the principle of imposing order on nature. The style originated in the late-16th century in Italy, in the gardens of the Vatican and the Villa Borghese gardens in Rome and in the gardens of the Villa d'Este in Tivoli, and then spread to France, where it became known as the ''jardin à la française'' or French formal garden. The grandest example is found in the Gardens of Versailles designed during the 17th century by the landscape architect André Le Nôtre for Louis XIV. In the 18th century, in imitation of Versailles, very ornate Baroque gardens were built in other parts of Europe, including Germany, Austria, Spain, and in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.
