Toploader are an English Rock music, rock band from Eastbourne, East Sussex, formed in 1997, with over two million album sales and several top-20 hits both home and abroad. Their debut album, ''Onka's Big Moka'', sold over one million units and peaked in the top five of the UK Albums Chart, where it remained for six months; it earned them four nominations at the 2001 Brit Awards. They are best known for their 2000 cover of King Harvest's US hit "Dancing in the Moonlight", which became a global hit for them. Their second album, ''Magic Hotel'', reached No. 3 on the UK Albums Chart. The band broke up in 2003, after the release of their second album, but they reformed in 2009 and remain active as of . "Dancing in the Moonlight" is a song written by Sherman Kelly, originally recorded in 1970 by Kelly's band Boffalongo, and then a hit single by King Harvest in 1972, reaching no. 5 in Canada and no. 13 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. In 2000, a cover by English band Toploader became a worldwide hit and achieved multi-platinum status in the United Kingdom. Another cover by Swedish EDM duo Jubël, released in 2018, was also a hit in some European countries. History Sherman Kelly wrote the song in 1969. ''Onka's Big Moka'' is the debut studio album by English band Toploader, which was released on 22 May 2000, through S2 Records. Having been recorded between 1998 and 1999, it was produced by long time collaborator of the Manic Street Preachers, Dave Eringa. After its release, the album reached the top 5 of the UK Albums Chart at number 4, where it stayed for six months. The song "Dancing in the Moonlight", a cover of the Boffalongo song, was later featured in television commercials for the supermarket chain Sainsbury's, on the soundtrack of the 2002 American coming-of-age teen romantic drama ''A Walk to Remember'', the 2010 comedy film ''Four Lions'', and the 2019 television series ''The Umbrella Academy''. Magic Hotel
''Magic Hotel'' is the second album by English band Toploader. Released in 2002, it is a follow-up to their successful 1999 album ''Onka's Big Moka''. Dan Hipgrave
Daniel Hipgrave (born 5 August 1975) is an English musician and writer, best known as the guitarist of the post-Britpop/alternative rock band Toploader. Early life Hipgrave studied psychiatric nursing at the University of Sussex, until he left in 1996 to devote his time to his band. Music career In April 1998, Toploader signed a six-album deal with S2 Records, a subsidiary of Sony Records. They went on to tour worldwide in their own right, and as a supporting act to Paul Weller, Robbie Williams and Bon Jovi. Toploader's debut album, ''Onka's Big Moka'', was released in 1999, it sold more than one million copies. The album featured various chart hits including their cover of "Dancing in the Moonlight", "Achilles Heel" and "Only for a While". Toploader's second album, ''Magic Hotel'', was released in 2002. ''TFI Friday'' (Thank Four it's Friday) is an entertainment show that was broadcast on Channel 4 television in the United Kingdom. It was produced by Ginger Productions, written by Danny Baker, and hosted by Chris Evans, for the first five series. The sixth series was hosted by several guest presenters. The show was broadcast on Fridays at 6pm from 9 February 1996 to 22 December 2000, with a repeat later that night. Its theme tune was Ron Grainer's theme from '' Man in a Suitcase'', in keeping with Evans' frequent use of 1960s television themes in his work. A one-off revival episode of the show was broadcast on Channel 4 on 12 June 2015. The episode was well-received; on 23 June 2015, Channel 4 announced that it had commissioned a full revived series, which began airing on 16 October 2015. Paul Weller
John William Weller (born 25 May 1958), better known as Paul Weller, is an English singer-songwriter and musician. Weller achieved fame in the late 1970s as the guitarist and principal singer and songwriter of the rock band the Jam, alongside Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler. The band gained significant critical and commercial success in the United Kingdom, and were the most influential band of the mod revival of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Following the dissolution of the Jam at the end of 1982, Weller formed the Style Council with Mick Talbot, where he explored a wide variety of other musical styles, including pop, jazz, soul, hip hop, folk and classical.
