Top Speed (musical)
''Top Speed'' is a musical in two acts with music by Harry Ruby, lyrics by Bert Kalmar, and a book co-authored by Guy Bolton, Ruby, and Kalmar. The musical is set at the Onawanda Lodge, a fictional resort in the Thousand Islands that sits on the American side of the Canada–United States border in New York (state), New York. The story follows two young and financially poor American men who fall in love with two wealthy American heiresses while vacationing far above their economic means. Misadventures ensue when the boys are asked to pilot a speed boat owned by one of the girls in an international boat race. History ''Top Speed'' premiered at the Chestnut Street Opera House in Philadelphia on November 13, 1929. The production moved to Broadway theatre, Broadway's Chanin's 46th Street Theatre where it opened on Christmas Day 1929. Harland Dixon
Harland Dixon (November 4, 1885 – June 30, 1969) was a Canadian-American dancer and choreographer, whose career encompassed vaudeville, musical theatre, and films. For much of his career he partnered with Jimmy Doyle, as Doyle and Dixon. Biography Dixon was born on November 4, 1885, in Toronto, Ontario. His family were strictly religious, but Dixon studied gymnastics and developed an interest in vaudeville dance performances, many of which he became able to imitate. He left home and took work as a wallpaper, paper hanger in Buffalo, New York, then as a freight elevator operator in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1906 he moved to New York City with just in his pocket and worked for George H. Francis Curry McHugh (May 23, 1898 – September 11, 1981) was an American stage, radio, film and television actor. Early years Born in Homestead, Pennsylvania, of Irish descent, McHugh came from a theatrical family. His parents, Edward A. "Cutie" McHugh and Katherine Curry "Katie" McHugh, ran the McHugh stock theater company in Braddock, Pennsylvania. As a young child he performed on stage. Jack Whiting (born Albert Draper Whiting, Jr.; June 22, 1901 – February 15, 1961) was an American actor, singer and dancer whose career ran from the early 1920s through the late 1950s, playing leading men or major supporting figures.
