''Casca'' is a series of historical fantasy novels created by author Barry Sadler in 1979. The stories revolve around the exploits of Casca Rufio Longinus, the Roman legionary who drove the Holy Lance into the side of Jesus Christ on Golgotha. As a result of this action, Casca is cursed with immortality, and he is to wander the Earth aimlessly, always as a soldier, until the Second Coming. The character is loosely based on the Longinus legend of Christianity. Sadler wrote some of the early novels in the series while the others were assigned to ghostwriters. When Sadler died in 1989, the series was handed off to other writers. Two subsequent novels, ''The Liberator'' and ''The Defiant'', were written by Paul Dengelegi. The current author, Tony Roberts, has written every new entry in the series since 2006, excluding ''Immortal Dragon'' and ''The Outlaw'', which were written by Michael B. Goodwin. Anthony Mark Roberts (born 4 August 1969) is a Welsh football coach and former professional footballer, who is the goalkeeping coach for Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Wales national team. As a player, he was as a goalkeeper who notably played in the Premier League for Queens Park Rangers over various seasons before dropping down into the Football League with the club in 1996. He later played for Millwall, St. Albans City, Atlanta Silverbacks and Dagenham & Redbridge. He was capped twice by Wales. Since retiring, Roberts moved into coaching and returned to Queens Park Rangers before later becoming an academy coach at Arsenal. Antony Martin Roberts (17 November 1938 – 2000) was an Australian race and rally driver. Career Roberts won the 1968 Datsun 3 Hour Trophy at Sandown in Melbourne with Bob Watson, giving the Holden HK Monaro GTS327 a debut victory. In 1969 Roberts, then a prominent rally driver competing for a major Holden dealership, and with just a single season of circuit racing experience, was invited by Harry Firth to join his newly formed Holden Dealer Team and went on to take victory co-driving with Colin Bond in the 1969 Hardie-Ferodo 500 HDT Holden HT Monaro GTS350. Roberts and Bond won the 1970 Rothmans 12 Hour at Surfers Paradise, also in an HDT Monaro GTS350. Then Roberts drove a Holden Torana sports sedan which was used as a prototype for the Torana GTR XU-1 which debuted later in the year. Tony Roberts (born 1928) is an American retired sportscaster who was the play-by-play announcer for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team from 1980 until 2006. He is a member of the Indiana Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Holiday Bowl Hall of Fame and College Football Hall of Fame. In 2005, he won the Chris Schenkel Award. In 2006, he was replaced by Don Criqui as play-by-play announcer for Notre Dame. Roberts is from Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Columbia College with a degree in journalism. He began his career working for radio stations in Iowa, Indiana and Washington, D.C. He has also worked covering the NFL, MLB, NBA, golf, and the Olympic Games. Tony Roberts (born 1949) is a contemporary English poet and critic. Biography Roberts was born in Doncaster. He was educated at the then Didsbury College and, on a Drapers’ Company of London Scholarship, at The College of William and Mary in Virginia, where he completed an M.A. in literature. After teaching in Williamsburg he returned to Manchester and taught in Bolton schools for over thirty years, before taking early retirement to focus on his writing. Roberts's poetry has appeared in a wide variety of magazines, including ' Agenda', ‘Encounter’, ' P.N.Review', ‘Poetry Review’, ‘ The Spectator’, ‘Stand’ and ‘ The Southern Review’. A poem from his ''Drawndark'' collection appeared as the Saturday poem in ‘ The Guardian’ in 2015.
