The New Power Generation, also known as the NPG, was the backing band of musician Prince from 1990 to 2013. They were replaced by 3rdeyegirl as his backing band in 2013. In 2015, the New Power Generation reunited as Prince's backing band for his final studio album before his death, '' Hit n Run Phase Two''. They reunited once again in 2017 for a US and European tour. History The phrase "Welcome to the New Power Generation" was mentioned on the opening track of 1988's ''Lovesexy''. She was part of Prince's New Power Generation and as of 2016 is with Roadcase Royale, a band formed with Nancy Wilson and members of Heart. Personal life and career Warfield grew up the daughter of a Pentecostal deacon listening to gospel music, with a strict background which did not allow her to listen to secular music; she used to sing Whitney Houston songs to herself when her parents were not around. Ida Kristine Nielsen (born 1975), also known as Bass Ida, Bassida, and Ida Funkhouser, is a Danish bass player, composer and vocalist. She is known for being a member of several bands, such as Belgian Zap Mama, Danish pop rock band Michael Learns to Rock, American funk band the New Power Generation, and funk rock trio 3rdeyegirl (2012–present). Rhonda Smith is a Canadian bassist, best known for her work with Prince and Jeff Beck. Biography Smith was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her family moved to Montreal when she was a child.
