Toni Strubell I Trueta
Toni Strubell i Trueta (born 25 June 1952 in Oxford, England) is a Catalan linguist. Biography He studied modern languages at the University of Oxford and in 1978 moved to Olot, where he collaborated with Ràdio Olot in its program ''News from the Catalan Countries'' (''Notícies dels Països Catalans''), which had a big following both in the Garrotxa as well as in Osona. In 1981, he moved to the Basque Country and gave classes in English at the University of Deusto until 2001. He has given and organized classes at the Catalan Summer University and on translation at the Official School of Languages in Barcelona. He has collaborated with the following newspapers: ''El Punt, Avui, S'Arenal, El Temps, Presència, La Vanguardia, El Periódico de Catalunya, Egin'', and with the BBC. 2010 Catalonian Parliamentary Election
The 2010 Catalan regional election was held on Sunday, 28 November 2010, to elect the 9th Parliament of the autonomous community of Catalonia. All 135 seats in the Parliament were up for election. This was the first election held in Catalonia after the Constitutional Court of Spain struck down parts of the regional 2006 Statute of Autonomy that granted new powers of self-rule to the region. The ruling came after four years of deliberation concerning a constitutional appeal filed by the conservative People's Party (PP) under Mariano Rajoy and was met with 2010 Catalan autonomy protest, anger and street protests throughout the region. Manresa
Manresa () is the capital of the Comarca of Bages, located in the geographical centre of Catalonia, Spain, and crossed by the river Cardener. It is an industrial area with textile, metallurgical, and glass industries. The houses of Manresa are arranged around the basilica of Santa Maria de la Seu. Saint Ignatius of Loyola stopped to pray in the town on his way back from Montserrat in 1522. He also read in solitude in a cave near the town for a year, which contributed to the formulation of his Spiritual Exercises. As such, the town is a place of pilgrimage for Catholics. It is believed the comarcal name "Bages" comes from a corruption of the Latin "Bacchus" due to the extensive production of wine in the area. The wine was produced from grapes grown mainly in terraced vineyards, and many of these old terraces can be seen today. ''Egin'' was a Basque newspaper written in Spanish language and Basque language. Founded in 1977 the paper was in circulation until 1998 when it was closed down by the Spanish government. History and profile The first issue of ''Egin'' was published on 29 September 1977. The paper was published from Hernani by Orain SA, which also ran the radio station Egin Irratia.
