Events * August 4 – The Billboard's American Folk Tunes column reported that Gene Autry had signed a long-term recording contract with Columbia Records. The source of the information was Art Satherly, described as "the grand old man of Western music". Art moved over to Columbia Records when CBS purchased American Record Corporation (ARC) in December 1938, and currently manages and produces Okeh Record's stable of artists, which includes Autry, Bob Wills, Ted Daffan, Johnny Bond, Al Dexter, Wiley Walker and Gene Sullivan, Spade Cooley, Roy Acuff and Fred Rose. Columbia is in the process of phasing out the Okeh label, and future releases will be on the parent label. ''The Essential Glen Campbell Volume Three'' is the third of a series of three albums which cover Glen Campbell's recordings for Capitol Records from 1962-79. The tracks are presented in a non-chronological order. All three ''Essential'' CDs contain, next to single and albums tracks, previously unreleased recordings. On ''The Essential Glen Campbell Volume Three'', these are "Beautiful Brown Eyes", "They'll Never Take Her Love from Me", "All the Way" and "Learnin' the Blues". Loretta Lynn (; April 14, 1932 – October 4, 2022) was an American country music singer and songwriter. In a career spanning six decades, Lynn released multiple gold albums. Her crossover signature recording, "Rose Garden," was a number one hit in the United States and internationally. The Osborne Brothers, Sonny (October 29, 1937 – October 24, 2021) and Bobby (born December 7, 1931), were an influential and popular bluegrass act during the 1960s and 1970s and until Sonny retired in 2005. They are probably best known for their No. 33 1967 country hit song, " Rocky Top", written by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant and named after a Tennessee location. ''A Picture of Me (Without You)'' is an album by American country music singer George Jones. It was released in 1972 on the Epic Records label. The release was Jones' 47th studio album, his second solo LP for Epic Records, and is also one of four albums released by the singer during the year 1972 (two as a solo artist, and two duet albums with his wife Tammy Wynette) as producer Billy Sherrill wasted no time in flooding the market with new recordings by "the Possum".
