Tommy Stjerne
Tommy Stjerne (born 20 July 1957 in Copenhagen) is a Danish curler. Stjerne curls out of Hvidovre Curling Club outside Copenhagen. He has represented Denmark in the 1977, 1981, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1990, and 1998 World Curling Championships. His best finish was a bronze in 1990. He skipped his team to win the 2010 Danish Curling Championship. His son (Rasmus Stjerne) skipped the Danish team to a silver medal in the 2010 European Curling Championships. He will represent Denmark in the 2011 Ford World Men's Curling Championship in Regina, Saskatchewan. His rink consists of him as skip, Per Berg as vice, Peter Andersen (Danish curler), Peter Andersen as second, Anders Søderblom as lead, and Jan Nebelong as alternate. Hvidovre
Hvidovre is the main town in Hvidovre Municipality, Denmark. The town, a suburb of Copenhagen, is about 10 km southwest of the capital's center. It is the 2nd biggest suburb of Copenhagen, only beaten by Frederiksberg. History Hvidovre has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In 1929, a 3,500-year-old sword from the Bronze Age was excavated in Hvidovre. A farm, Ovre (Aworthe), was located in the area in about 1170 when Esbern Snare gave it to Sorø Abbey that later passed it on to Absalon, Bishop Absalon. A church was built during the Romanesque period. The name Hvidovre, meaning White Ovre, refers to the colour of the church, which was built in white chalk, as opposed to the one in Rødovre, Red Ovre, which was built in red brick. World Curling Championships
The World Curling Championships are the annual world championships for curling, organized by the World Curling Federation and contested by national championship teams. There are men's, women's and Doubles curling, mixed doubles championships, as well as men's and women's versions of junior and senior championships. There is also a World Wheelchair Curling Championship, world championship for wheelchair curling. The men's championship started in 1959, while the women's started in 1979. The mixed doubles championship was started in 2008. Since 2005, the men's and women's championships have been held in different venues, with Canada hosting one of the two championships every year: the men's championship in odd years, and the women's championship in even years. Rasmus Stjerne
Rasmus Stjerne Hansen (born 26 May 1988 in Hvidovre) is a Danish curler. He is a former world junior champion and world men's silver medalist. He curls out of the Hvidovre Curling Club. Career Stjerne participated in six World Junior Championships. He played as third for Kenneth Jørgensen in 2004 and 2005, finishing outside of the playoffs in both years. He then skipped his own team at the World Juniors in 2006, 2007, and 2008, finishing fifth, fourth, and seventh, respectively. Then, in the 2009 World Junior Curling Championships, Stjerne and his team made the playoffs as the second-ranked team. They were defeated by Canada in the page 1 vs. 2 game, but rebounded with a win over the United States in the semifinal and defeated Canada in the final to win the gold medal. 2010 European Curling Championships
The 2010 Le Gruyère European Curling Championships were held in Champéry, Switzerland from December 3–11, 2010. The Group C matches took place from September 24–28 at the Greenacres Ice Rink in Howwood, Scotland. The winners of the Group C matches advanced to the Group B playoffs in Monthey. The Group A round robin matches took place from December 4–11 at the Palladium de Champéry in Champéry, while the Group B matches took place at the Verney Arena in Monthey. Sweden's Stina Viktorsson won the gold medal when her rink defeated the Eve Muirhead rink from Scotland. Switzerland's Mirjam Ott won the bronze medal game over Russia's Liudmila Privivkova in 9 ends. 2011 Ford World Men's Curling Championship
The 2011 World Men's Curling Championship (branded as Ford World Men's Curling Championship 2011 presented by Richardson for sponsorship reasons) was held at the Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada from April 2–10, 2011. In the final, Jeff Stoughton skipped the Canadian rink to a 6–5 victory over Scotland's Tom Brewster, who was playing in his first World Championship. Scotland took the early lead, going up 3–1 after four ends, thanks to successful double and triple take outs. Stoughton picked out a Scottish stone in the four-foot in the fifth end to score three, and take a 4–3 lead into the break.
