Tomato Head Records was an independent record label started by Chuck Phelps after his split with the ska punk band Skankin' Pickle and Dill Records. The label most notably released the debut EP of Tsunami Bomb, '' The Invasion from Within!'' and the Luckie Strike EP, ''Future is Turning''. The label is now in indefinite hiatus. Chuck Phelps (drummer)
Skankin' Pickle was an American ska punk band formed in San Jose, California that was active from 1989 to 1997. Biography Skankin' Pickle first formed in December 1988, made up of students from Westmont High School and Los Gatos High School. The band, consisting of bassist and vocalist Mike Mattingly, saxophonist and vocalist Mike Park, guitarist and vocalist Lynette Knackstedt, and Drummer Chhuck Phelps, played its first show on April 28, 1989. The group recruited trombonist Lars Nylander several months later, then continued as a five-piece until the addition of second trombonist Gerry Lundquist in early 1990. In 1991, Park formed Dill Records, based out of San Jose, California, to release Skankin' Pickle's material, beginning with their debut album, the half-live, half-studio '' Skafunkrastapunk''. Punk rock (also known as simply punk) is a rock music genre that emerged in the mid-1970s. Ska Punk
Ska punk (also spelled ska-punk) is a fusion genre that mixes ska music and punk rock music. Ska punk tends to feature brass instruments, especially Horn (instrument), horns such as trumpets, trombones and woodwind instruments like saxophones, making the genre distinct from other forms of punk rock. It is closely tied to third wave ska, which reached its zenith in the mid-1990s. Before ska punk began, many ska bands and punk rock bands performed on the same bills. Pop-punk (also punk-pop, alternatively spelled without the hyphen) is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of punk rock with power pop or pop music, pop. It is defined by its fast-paced, energetic tempos, and emphasis on classic pop songcraft, as well as Adolescence, adolescent and anti-suburbia themes. Dill Records was a small punk rock/ska record label based out of Monte Sereno, California, that put out CDs/ records from 1989-1998. The name is an allusion to initially the label's only band, Skankin' Pickle. The record label was started by Mike Park, a.k.a. Bruce Lee of Skankin' Pickle. The first other band with a release on Dill Records was the Tantra Monsters (Dill 006) in 1994. Tsunami Bomb
The tsunami bomb was an attempt during World War II to develop a tectonic weapon that could create destructive tsunamis. The project commenced after United States Navy officer E.A. Gibson noticed small waves generated by explosions used to clear coral reefs. The idea was developed by the United States and New Zealand military in a program code named Project Seal. The weapons concept was deemed feasible, but the weapons themselves were never fully developed or used. A related concept, the bouncing bomb ''was'' developed and used in World War II, to be dropped into water as a means to destroy German dams and cause loss of industrial capacity and widespread flooding. The Invasion From Within!
''The Invasion from Within!'' is the first EP released by Tsunami Bomb, and their third release overall. History ''The Invasion from Within!'' would be the band's only release on Tomato Head Records but is the label's best selling album. After this release, the band signed to the larger independent label, Kung Fu Records. The title track was used in Atlus is a Japanese video game developer, video game publisher, publisher, Arcade game, arcade manufacturer and distribution company based in Tokyo. A subsidiary of Sega, the company is known for the ''Megami Tensei'', ''Persona (series), Persona'' ... USA's release of the Strategy RPG '' Disgaea: Hour of Darkness''. The song is noticeably absent in the Japanese audio track. Because only Atlus owned the rights to the song, it is not present in ports of the game such as ''Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness'' and ''Disgaea 1 Complete'', which were not published by Atlus. Luckie Strike
Luckie Strike was an American punk rock band from Sacramento, California, formed in 1996. As a female-fronted band, their sound received attention, and both positive and critical reviews. Luckie Strike faced challenges on the road, including a stolen van in 2001, leading to a temporary hiatus and eventual disbandment in 2002. Link 80 was an American punk rock/ska punk band from San Francisco's East Bay (San Francisco Bay Area), East Bay, United States. Band history Link 80 started in the summer 1993 in the East Bay (California), East Bay of California.
