Thomas Victor Nicholas Satriano (born August 28, 1940) is an American former professional baseball player. Although he began his professional career as a third baseman, he converted to catcher and played 321 games as a backstop during a ten-year, 674-game Major League Baseball career from – for the Los Angeles / California Angels and Boston Red Sox. He batted left-handed, threw right-handed, and was listed as tall and . Biography Born in Pittsburgh, Satriano graduated from Loyola High School in Los Angeles and attended the University of Southern California, where he was a member of the Trojans' 1961 NCAA tournament championship team. Catcher
Catcher is a position in baseball and softball. When a batter takes their turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home) umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Positioned behind home plate and facing toward the outfield, the catcher can see the whole field, and is therefore in the best position to direct and lead the other players in a defensive play. NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament
The NCAA Division I Baseball Championship is held each year from May through June and features 64 college baseball teams in the United States, culminating in the eight-team Men's College World Series (MCWS) at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. Women's baseball is played in several countries. The strongest and most organized women's baseball leagues are in the United States, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, Cuba, Hong Kong, and Canada. Those countries have national governing bodies that support girls' and women's baseball programs. The Colorado Silver Bullets were an all-female professional baseball team that played in the United States from 1994 to 1997. The Bullets were the first such team since the folding of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1954. History Founding The team was owned by Hope Beckham Inc. a partnership consisting of Paul Beckham and Bob Hope in Atlanta, Georgia. Back in the 1980s, Bob Hope, a former Atlanta Braves executive and the owner of an Atlanta public relations firm, had tried to field a women's minor league team called the Sun Sox. Gina Satriano is an Assistant District Attorney in the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, who pitched for the Colorado Silver Bullets, the first professional women's baseball team to compete again men. She was the first girl in the state of California to play Little League baseball. Early life Satriano's father, Tom Satriano, was a catcher and a third baseman for the California Angels and Boston Red Sox, and can be credited for introducing her to the game. In the early 1970s, at the age of 7 she became the first girl to play Little League Baseball in California. An infielder is a baseball player stationed at one of four defensive "infield" positions on the baseball field, between first base and third base.
