Tom Rafferty
Thomas Michael Rafferty (born August 2, 1954) is a former American football offensive lineman in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football for head coach Joe Paterno at Penn State University. Early years Rafferty attended Fayetteville-Manlius High School, where he received all-league honors as a defensive lineman in football and also in lacrosse. He accepted a scholarship from Penn State University, where he played for head coach Joe Paterno and was converted into an offensive lineman. In 1973, he was a part of an undefeated season (12–0). He became a starter as a junior and was named twice to the UPI's All-East team and once to the Football Writers' All-American team in 1975. Extra Point
The conversion, try (American football, also known as a point(s) after touchdown, PAT, or (depending on the number of points) extra point/2-point conversion), or convert (Canadian football) occurs immediately after a touchdown during which the scoring team is allowed to attempt to score one extra point by kicking the ball through the uprights in the manner of a field goal, or two points by bringing the ball into the end zone in the manner of a touchdown. A field goal (FG) is a means of scoring in gridiron football. To score a field goal, the team in possession of the ball must place kick, or drop kick, the ball through the goal, i.e., between the uprights and over the crossbar. The entire ball must pass through the vertical plane of the goal, which is the area above the crossbar and between the uprights or, if above the uprights, between their outside edges. American football requires that a field goal must only come during a play from scrimmage (except in the case of a fair catch kick) while Canadian football retains open field kicks and thus field goals may be scored at any time from anywhere on the field and by any player. In American football, the long snapper (or deep snapper) is a center on special teams whose duty is to snap the football over a longer distance, typically around 15 yards during punts, and 7–8 yards during field goals and extra point attempts. Overview During field goal and point after touchdown attempts, the snap is received by the holder, typically 7–8 yards away. During punts, the snap is delivered to the punter from 13–15 yards away. Blaine Nye
Blaine Francis Nye (born March 29, 1946) is a former American football offensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Stanford University. Early years Born in Ogden, Utah, Nye played football at Servite High School in Anaheim, California, and graduated in 1964. He accepted a football scholarship from Stanford University. As a sophomore in 1965, he played offensive tackle and also some snaps at defensive end. As a junior, he was moved to defensive tackle four days before the start of the season. He led the team with 104 tackles and received honorable-mention All-Pac-8 honors. 1976 NFL Draft
The 1976 National Football League draft was an annual player selection meeting held April 8–9, 1976, at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, New York. The draft lasted 17 rounds, with the expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks making the first two selections. The Buccaneers were awarded the first overall pick of the draft after winning a draw over the Seahawks, and used that pick to select defensive tackle Lee Roy Selmon.
