Thomas Moore
Thomas Moore (28 May 1779 – 25 February 1852), was an Irish writer, poet, and lyricist who was widely regarded as Ireland's "National poet, national bard" during the late Georgian era. The acclaim rested primarily on the popularity of his ''Irish Melodies'' (with the first of ten volumes appearing in 1808). In these, Moore set to old Irish tunes verses that spoke to a nationalist narrative of Irish dispossession and loss. With his romantic work ''Lalla Rookh'' (1817), in which these same themes are explored in an elaborate Orientalism, orientalist allegory, Moore achieved wider critical recognition. Translated into several languages, and adapted and arranged for musical performance by, among others, Robert Schumann, the Chivalric romance, chivalric verse-narrative established Moore as one of the leading exemplars of European romanticism. Tommy Moore (footballer)
Thomas Moore (1877 – after 1900) was an English association footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born in Stoke-on-Trent, Moore played for Millwall Athletic before a controversial move to local rivals Thames Ironworks, making his debut on 10 September 1898 in a 3–0 away win against Shepherd's Bush. Moore was a member of the side which won the Southern Football League second division in 1898–99. The side conceded only 16 goals in 22 games, 21 of which saw Moore in goal. Regular appearances in the side continued until Thames Ironworks folded in 1900. Their successor club West Ham United included Moore in their second game of the season on 8 September 1900, a 3–1 defeat to Millwall Athletic. He replaced Hugh Monteith who had kept goal in the opening game of the season, a 7–0 defeat to Gravesend United. Thomas Patrick Moore (1872–1934) was an Argentine football player, most recognised for his tenure on Lobos Athletic Club. Tommy Joe Moore (July 7, 1948 – November 16, 2017) was an American professional baseball pitcher, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB), in parts of four seasons between 1972 and 1977. Early years Fresh out of John Glenn High School in Norwalk, California, Moore was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 28th round of the 1966 Major League Baseball draft, but did not sign. Seven months later, while a student at Cerritos College, the New York Mets drafted him in the tenth round of the January 1967 Secondary draft, and he signed. While a student at Cerritos, Moore toiled around in the lower levels of the Mets' farm system, going 14-18 with a 3.59 earned run average (ERA) until he had a standout season with the Mets' triple A affiliate, the Tidewater Tides. Moore went 11-5 with a 2.80 ERA to earn a September call-up to the big league club. Sir Thomas Cecil Russell Moore, 1st Baronet CBE (16 September 1886 – 9 April 1971) was a long-serving Scottish Unionist Party politician.
