Tom Dixon (hurler)
Tom Dixon (1930 – 9 February 2003) was an Irish hurler who played as a left corner-forward for the Wexford senior team. Dixon made his first appearance for the team during the 1953 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen for the next few seasons until his retirement after the 1957 championship. During that time he won one All-Ireland medal, one Leinster medal and one National League medal. Ferns St Aidan's GAA
Ferns St Aidan's is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ferns, County Wexford, Ferns, County Wexford, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club was founded in 1886 and fields teams in hurling, Gaelic football and camogie. Overview Facilities Ferns St Aidan's has three full-sized adult pitches (one of which is the exact dimensions of Croke Park, and is regularly used by county teams for training) as well as a smaller, underage, pitch. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into five divisions, with seven teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Wexford Senior Hurling Championship
The Wexford Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Pettitt's SuperValu Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Wexford GAA clubs. The Wexford GAA, Wexford County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1889. The Leinster GAA Hurling Senior Championship, known simply as the Leinster Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Leinster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in the province of Leinster, and has been contested every year since the 1888 championship. The Wexford county hurling team represents Wexford in hurling and is governed by Wexford GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. 1957 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1957 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 71st staging of the All-Ireland hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1887. The championship began on 14 April 1957 and ended on 1 September 1957. Wexford were the defending champions, however, they were defeated in the provincial campaign. Kilkenny won the All-Ireland following a 4-10 to 3-12 defeat of Waterford. Rule changes Prior to the start of the championship the Galway county board put down a motion at the Gaelic Athletic Association's (GAA) annual congress seeking immediate entry to the Leinster championship. Since 1922 Galway's hurlers had no competition in the Connacht championship and, as a result, they gained automatic entry to the All-Ireland semi-final every year.
