Tom Cordes
Thomas Matthijs Adrianus Cordes (born 30 May 1966) is a retired Dutch cyclist. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympics in the individual road race and 100 km team time trial and finished in 42nd and 11th place, respectively. During his career he won two world titles, in the road race (junior, 1985) and team time trial (senior, 1986). He also won the Hel van het Mergelland (1987), Ronde van Overijssel (1987) and Vuelta a Murcia (1990), as well as individual stages of the Tour de Pologne (1985), Tour of Sweden (1988), Tour of Galicia (1989), Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (1989), Vuelta a España (1992) and Olympia's Tour (1997, 1998, 1999). Wilnis
Wilnis is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located in the municipality of De Ronde Venen, between Mijdrecht and Vinkeveen. It is about twenty kilometres south of Amsterdam. Wilnis was a separate municipality until 1989. History It was first mentioned in 1185 as Wildenisse, and means wilderness. Wilnis started as a peat excavation village in the 12th century, and formed into a long linear settlement. In 1739, the tower of the Dutch Reformed Church collapsed. Between 1877 and 1878, a new church with tower was constructed. In 1840, the village was home to 1,041 people. New neighbourhoods have been built in the polder. The grist mill De Veenmolen was built in 1823, but might be older. It continued in operation until 1947. It was restored between 1972 and 1973, and is occasionally used for grinding. Olympia's Tour
The Olympia's Tour is a cycling stage race held in the Netherlands. History A.S.C. Olympia was founded in Amsterdam on 27 November 1898. It ran one-day races but wanted a race through all the Netherlands. The first Olympia's Tour was in 1909, with three stages and one rest day. The second in 1910 went to Maastricht and Groningen. It was 17 years before the third race, partly because races on public roads were forbidden in the Netherlands during the First World War. An international field with 16 Germans, the champions of Switzerland and Luxembourg and around 40 Dutch riders left the Rembrandtplein on 17 August 1927. The Dutch were mainly amateurs, the Germans sponsored riders who rode for bicycle manufacturers such as Opel and Diamant which provided material and a support team. The German Rudolf Wolke won after four stages and 800 kilometres ahead of Janus Braspennincx. It was the last race until 1955.
