Tom Baum (actor)
Thomas Henle Baum (born 1940 in New York) is an American playwright, screenwriter, novelist, and short-story writer. A graduate of Harvard, where he majored in math, Baum is best known for writing ''The Sender'' and ''Carny,'' both of which he wrote directly (as Thomas Baum) for the screen. He lives in Los Angeles with his producer wife, Carol Baum. He has two sons, Will Baum and Henry Baum, and three grandchildren. He is a descendant of the German anatomist Friedrich Gustav Jakob Henle, who discovered and named the loop of Henle in the human kidneys. ''War of the Worlds'' is a science fiction television series that ran for two seasons, from October 7, 1988 to May 14, 1990. The series is a continuation of the 1953 film ''The War of the Worlds'', a loose adaptation of the 1898 novel of the same title by H. G. Wells, using the same war machine designs and often incorporating aspects from the film, radio adaptation, and the original novel into its mythology. Though the original film's producer, George Pal, envisioned a TV follow-up sometime in the 1970s, it was not until the late 1980s that a series was finally realized, this time by television producer Greg Strangis. He relocated to Los Angeles in his early childhood. His parents are Tom Baum and Carol Baum. Career Baum is the author of five novels and several published short stories. ''Hugo the Hippo'' () is a 1975 animated film produced by the Pannónia Filmstúdió of Hungary and co-produced in the United States by Brut Productions, a division of French perfume company Faberge. It was released in Hungary in 1975 and in the United States in 1976 by 20th Century Fox (as its first animated feature film distribution). The film was directed by William Feigenbaum and József Gémes (who directed the animation). Plot The harbor of Zanzibar becomes infested with a gang of vicious great white sharks, which makes it impossible for trading ships to dock. In an attempt to fix the problem, the Sultan charges his advisor, Aban-Khan, to bring twelve hippopotamus into the harbor to keep the sharks away. His idea works well enough, but once the hippos are no longer a novelty and the people no longer feed them, they begin to starve. ''ABC Afterschool Special'' is an American anthology television series that aired on ABC from October 4, 1972, to January 23, 1997, usually in the late afternoon on weekdays. Most episodes were dramatically presented situations, often controversial, of interest to children and teenagers. Several episodes were either in animated form or presented as documentaries. Topics included illiteracy, substance abuse and teenage pregnancy. The series won 51 Daytime Emmy Awards and four Peabody Awards during its 25-year run. In 2004 and 2005, BCI Eclipse and Sunset Home Visual Entertainment issued six DVD collections of episodes from the series that had been produced by Martin Tahse, each collection containing four episodes.
