Toloño
The Toloño (; ), also known as the Sierra de Cantabria, is a mountain range in the province of Álava in the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country in northern Spain. From the west, the range rises from the ''Conchas de Haro'' where the River Ebro enters the region of La Rioja at 445 metres above sea level, and from there runs east forming the northern border of the Rioja Alavesa, separating the La Rioja, Rioja region from the rest of Álava. Its highest point is Mount Toloño at 1271 metres above sea level in the municipality of Labastida. It is noted for its steep rock faces on the southern side, and extensive forests in the north. The range is a landmark visible throughout the region. The name The Basque official name is Toloñoko mendilerroa, while in Spanish it is Sierra del Toloño. In Spanish, Sierra de Cantabria can be used too as a name, but the Instituto Geografico Nacional (Spanish National Geographic Institute) changed the official name in 2018. ...

Monastery Of Santa María De Toloño
Santa María de Toloño, also known as Our Lady of los Ángeles, is a ruined Spanish monastery located in the Sierra de Toloño near Labastida/Bastida, Labastida, Álava. Constructed by the Hieronymites, the monastery was destroyed in the First Carlist War and only a few walls remain. History The sanctuary is located in a meadow at above sea level. It was built by the Hieronymites between the 14th and 15th centuries, and abandoned in 1422 due to harsh weather. Later, it was affiliated with the ''Hermandad de la Divisa'' (Brotherhood of the Currency) until the end of 18th century. In 1835, during the First Carlist war, it suffered a fire that left only a part of the Baroque chapel standing. Architecture and fittings The building was well-constructed, with church, camarín and Sacristy, sacristía. Its Reredos, retablo mayor were of white stone. There were 22 rooms, five kitchens, separate rooms for a chaplain, two hermits and a servant, as well as a meeting room for the Divisa. ...

Labastida
Labastida in Spanish language, Spanish or Bastida in Basque language, Basque is a town and Municipalities of Spain, municipality of the Rioja Alavesa, in the province of Álava in the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque Country, northern Spain. It is located between the River Ebro and the Sierra de Toloño mountain range, 4 km east of the city of Haro, La Rioja, Haro and 30 km south of the Basque Country (autonomous community), Basque capital Vitoria-Gasteiz. History The presence of dolmens and neolithic cemeteries indicate the long human history of this region. An archeological site in Salinillas de Buradón shows evidence of a pre-Roman Celts, Celtic settlement of Berones, who migrated to the region in the 4th century BC. The hermitage of Santa Lucia dates to the 9th century, while the necropolis of Remelluri, where some 300 tombs are carved out of bare rock, is thought to date to the 10th century.
