Line 1 (Italian: ''linea uno'') is an rapid transit line, part of the Naples Metro in Naples, Italy. , Line 1 connects 18 stations. It is operated by Azienda Napoletana Mobilità SpA (ANM). The line has been renamed ''Metrò dell'Arte'' (Metro of Art) reflecting the presence of contemporary art works installed in some of its stations. The line is in the process of being upgraded and expanded. When the upgrading works are completed, Line 1 will connect 26 stations and form a loop, and bring easier access to the city centre for residents of Chiaiano, Piscinola, and Scampia. The Naples Metro ( it, Metropolitana di Napoli; nap, Metrupulitana 'e Napule) is the rapid transit system serving the city of Naples, Italy. The system comprises three underground rapid transit lines (Line 1, Line 6 and the Naples-Aversa Metro). History In 1911, construction on the urban section of the Rome–Formia–Naples railway, the Villa Literno–Napoli Gianturco railway was commenced, and although it was suspended for the duration of World War I, the line was eventually opened on 28 September 1925 as an urban railway service line, the first in Italy. After World War II, the existing Circumvesuviana railway was upgraded to a modern commuter rail, and also the Cumana railway became relevant for the commuter transport. Via Toledo
Via Toledo is an ancient street and one of the most important shopping thoroughfares in the city of Naples, Italy. The street is almost long and starts at Piazza Dante and ends in Piazza Trieste e Trento, near Piazza del Plebiscito. History The street was created by Spanish viceroy Pedro de Toledo, 2nd Marquis of Villafranca in 1536, who entrusted Ferdinando Manlio, an Italian architect. Over the centuries, the reputation of the street was enhanced through being a stop on the Grand Tour. On 15 May 1848, the street was the scene of the repression of Neapolitan liberals who defended the recently established constitution. Between the 1930s and the '50s, the street was modified by the construction of taller buildings, especially near the area of Piazza Carità. From 18 October 1870 to 1980, the street was called "Via Roma", to celebrate Italian unification. Università (from Italian: ''University'') is a station on line 1 of the Naples Metro located in the Porto district and part of the art stations. History The station was opened on 28 March 2011 and was designed by architect Alessandro Mendini and designer Karim Rashid. At the time, it was a one-station extension from Dante, since Toledo and Municipio stations were not yet ready. On 31 December 2013 the line was extended to Garibaldi. The Art Stations of Naples Metro consist of 12 stations along Line 1 and Line 6 of the Naples Metro with art installations. In total, there are more than 250 works of art. With the construction and expansion of numerous metro lines the municipality of Naples developed the project ''Stations of Art'' (also known as ''Hundred Stations Plan''), with which it was intended to entrust the planning of metro stops to well-known contemporary artists and architects. Then, with a resolution (resolution of 19 May 2006 Number 637), the Campania region issued guidelines to be applied to the design and construction of a station.
