Tokyo Godfathers
is a 2003 Japanese animated Christmas tragicomedy adventure film written and directed by Satoshi Kon. The film stars live-action actors such as Toru Emori, Yoshiaki Umegaki, and Aya Okamoto as the lead voice actors. Kon was inspired by the 1948 American film '' 3 Godfathers'' to make the film. Unlike Kon's other films, ''Tokyo Godfathers'' is grounded more in realism. However, as is typical of Kon's work, the film includes devices that are not straightforward, and Kon himself called it a twisted sentimental story. ''Tokyo Godfathers'' was released in Japan on November 8, 2003, and in North America on January 16, 2004. Satoshi Kon
was a Japanese film director, animator, screenwriter and manga artist from Sapporo, Hokkaido, and a member of the Japanese Animation Creators Association (JAniCA). He was a graduate of the Graphic Design department of the Musashino Art University. He is best known for his acclaimed anime films '' Perfect Blue'' (1997), '' Millennium Actress'' (2001), ''Tokyo Godfathers'' (2003), and ''Paprika'' (2006), and the TV series '' Paranoia Agent'' (2004). In 2010, Kon died of pancreatic cancer at age 46. Biography Early life Satoshi Kon was born on October 12, 1963. Japan Media Arts Festival
The Japan Media Arts Festival was an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition. Based on judging by a jury of artistic peers, awards are given in four categories: Art (formerly called Non-Interactive Digital Art), Entertainment (formerly called Interactive Art; including video games and websites), animation, and manga. Within each category, one Grand Prize, four Excellence Prizes, and (since 2002) one Encouragement Prize are awarded. Other outstanding works, are selected by the Jury as Jury Selections. Shakina Nayfack (born December 8, 1980) is an American actress and transgender activist. She is most notable for her series regular role as Lola, a "trans-truther", on the second and third seasons of the Hulu television program '' Difficult People'', on which she was also a writing consultant. GKIDS is an American film and television distributor owned by Toho International.
