Palmiro Togliatti
Palmiro Michele Nicola Togliatti (; 26 March 1893 – 21 August 1964) was an Italian politician and statesman, leader of Italy's Italian Communist Party, Communist party for nearly forty years, from 1927 until his death. Born into a middle-class family, Togliatti received an education in law at the University of Turin, later served as an officer and was wounded in World War I, and became a tutor. Described as "severe in approach but extremely popular among the Communist base" and "a hero of his time, capable of courageous personal feats", his supporters gave him the nickname ("the Best"). In 1930, Togliatti renounced Italian citizenship, and he became a citizen of the Soviet Union. Upon his death, Tolyatti, a Soviet city was named after him. Considered one of the founding fathers of the Italian Republic, he led Italy's Communist party from a few thousand members in 1943 to two million members in 1946. Togliatti Amnesty
The Togliatti amnesty () was an amnesty declared in Italy on 22 June 1946. Named after the then-Italian Minister of Justice, Italian Communist Party (PCI) member and leader Palmiro Togliatti, it pardoned and reduced sentences for Italian fascists and Partisan (military), partisans alike. The amnesty covered common crimes as well as political ones committed during World War II. Fascists and their collaborators benefited more from the amnesty than the partisans. Background The Italian Civil War, from 8 September 1943 to 2 May 1945, had ended with the German surrender. During this time, the Italian resistance movement had fought German occupation forces and their Fascist Italian allies, the Italian Social Republic. It has been estimated that during this period 22,000 Italian civilians were killed through Axis war crimes in Italy, and 30,000 Italian partisans died in the fighting. FC Togliatti
FC Tolyatti () was a Russian football club from Tolyatti, founded in 2008. Most of the players on the 2008 roster came from FC Krylia Sovetov-SOK Dimitrovgrad 2007 roster, and the club actually plays their home games in Dimitrovgrad. In March 2010, the club was excluded from the Second Division, (as was another Tolyatti team, FC Lada Tolyatti at the time). Akademiya () was a Russian association football club from Tolyatti, Russia. The club was founded in 1991 as a result of the merger between Energiya () and Lada-Simbirsk (). Before the 2010 season, two teams from Tolyatti, FC Togliatti and FC Lada Togliatti, were excluded from the professional leagues, with FC Akademiya representing Tolyatti at the time. History It was founded in 1991 under the name "Lada". In 1997-1998 it was renamed "Lada-Grad", in 1999 — "Lada-Simbirsk". In 2000, the club was merged with the Energia Ulyanovsk team under the name Lada-Energia. In 2003-2007, it was called "Lada-SOK" and "Krylia Sovetov-SOK". After the 2007 season, the players and coaching staff moved to the newly formed FC Tolyatti, and in early 2010 there was a merger with FC Tolyatti, and the team finally moved to the Samara region.
