Todaroa
''Todaroa'' is a monotypic genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Apiaceae. It just contains one known species, ''Todaroa aurea''. It is also in the subfamily ''Apioideae'' and it is part of tribe ''Scandiceae'' and subtribe ''Scandicinae''. It is native to the Canary Islands. The genus name of ''Todaroa'' is in honour of Agostino Todaro (1818–1892), an Italian botanist. The Latin binomial nomenclature, specific epithet of ''aurea'' means golden. Both the genus and the species were first described and published in P.B.Webb & S.Berthelot, Hist. Nat. Iles Canaries Series 3 (Vol.2; Issue 2) on page 155 in 1843. Agostino Todaro
Agostino Todaro (14 January 1818 – 18 April 1892) was an Italian botanist. He was born and died in Palermo, Italy. He was a professor of botany and became the director of the botanical gardens in Palermo. Starting with 1864 he edited the exsiccata ''Flora Sicula exsiccata''. Todaro published the ''Hortus Botanicus Panormitanus'' in 1876–1878. In 1843, botanist Filippo Parlatore published ''Todaroa'', which is a genus of flowering plants from the Canary Islands, belonging to the family Apiaceae. It just contains one known species, ''Todaroa aurea'' , and it is named after Agostino Todaro. The standard botanical author abbreviation Tod. is applied to species he described. Filippo Parlatore
Filippo Parlatore (Palermo, 8 August 1816 – Florence, 9 September 1877) was an Italian botanist. He studied medicine at Palermo, but practiced only for a short time, his chief activity being during the cholera epidemic of 1837. Although at that time he had been an assistant professor of anatomy, a subject on which he had already written (Treatise on the human retina), he soon gave up all other interests to devote his entire attention to botany. He first made a study of the flora of Sicily, publishing in 1838 ''Flora panormitana'' (Palermo); he also dealt with the Sicilian flora in later works. In 1840 he left home to begin his extended botanical expeditions. He travelled all through Italy, then into Switzerland (where he remained for a time at Geneva with De Candolle), to France (where he was at Paris with Webb, the Englishman) and to England, his longest stay being at Kew.
