Tobin (surname)
Tobin (, ; from the Norman surname ''Saint Aubin'', originated with Saint Albinus) is an Irish surname of Norman origin. The Anglo-French Saint Aubin family arrived in Ireland in the wake of the Norman invasion in the 12th century and settled in Counties Tipperary and Kilkenny, and subsequently spread to the neighbouring counties of Cork and Waterford. An early bearer of the surname is Irish-born John Tobyn, who appeared in patent rolls in 1413. By the 1440s there were three major Tobin clans established in south-east Tipperary, as well as the senior line in Kilkenny. The Tobins were an influential family in County Tipperary in medieval times, and the head of the family was known as the Baron of Coursey, although this was not an officially recognised title. Candida Tobin Hon FTCL, LTCL (5 January 1926 – 14 December 2008) was the author of the Tobin Method, a music education system for teaching music theory and practice to students of all ages and abilities. Louise Tobin
Mary Louise Tobin (November 11, 1918 – November 26, 2022) was an American jazz singer and musician. She appeared with Benny Goodman, Bobby Hackett, Will Bradley, and Jack Jenney. Tobin introduced "I Didn't Know What Time It Was" with Goodman's band in 1939. Her biggest hit with Goodman was "There'll Be Some Changes Made", which was number two on ''Your Hit Parade'' in 1941 for 15 weeks. Tobin was the first wife of trumpeter and bandleader Harry James, with whom she had two sons. John Tobin (28 January 17707 December 1804) was a British playwright, who was for most of his life unsuccessful, but in the year of his death made a hit with '' The Honey Moon''. George Tobin is a record producer who has produced albums for a long list of musical artists including Robert John, Smokey Robinson, Kim Carnes, Kicking Harold, and PC Quest. He is best known, however, for discovering, managing, and producing the teenage singer Tiffany and showcasing her in malls across the country.
