Tlumacz
Tlumach ( uk, Тлумач, translit=Tłumač; pl, Tłumacz, yi, טאַלמיטש, translit=Talmitsh), also referred to as Tovmach ( uk, Товмач, translit=Towmač) is a small city located in Ivano-Frankivsk Raion of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, in western Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Tlumach urban hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Population: . In 2001, population was around 8,800. History From the first partition of Poland in 1772 until 1918, the town (named ''Tłumacz'') was part of the Austrian monarchy (Austria side after the compromise of 1867), head of the district with the same name, one of the 78 ''Bezirkshauptmannschaften'' in Austrian Galicia province (Crown land) in 1900. After the collapse of Austria-Hungary the town briefly became part of the Western Ukrainian Republic before returning to Poland when Poland repulsed the invading Red Army. The Peace of Riga in 1921, confirmed the Polish possession of Galicia. A post-office was opened in 1858. ...
