Tirumala
Tirumala is a Hindu religious temple town in Tirupati district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the neighbourhoods of the Tirupati city. The town is a part of Tirupati Urban Development Authority and located in Tirupati (urban) mandal of Tirupati revenue division. The town is strictly vegetarian. It is a hill town where Tirumala Venkateswara Temple is located, a popular shrine of Vishnu. Vishnu is believed to reside here with his full power, as in Vaikuntha, and thus the place is also called 'Bhuloka Vaikuntha'. Etymology The word Tirumala is of Dravidian origin. The Venkateswara Temple of Tirumala or Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple is a Hindu temple situated in the hills of Tirumala, Tirupati Urban Mandal in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The temple is dedicated to Venkateswara, a form of Vishnu, who is believed to have appeared on earth to save mankind from trials and troubles of ''Kali Yuga''. Hence the place is also known by the name ''Kaliyuga Vaikuntha'' and the deity here is referred to as ''Kaliyuga Prathyaksha Daivam''. Tirumalai (lit. "the holy mountain"; also later Arhasugiri, lit. "the excellent mountain of the Arha ; Tamil Engunavirai-Tirumalai, lit. "the holy mountain of the Arhar" is a Jain temple and cave complex dating from at least the 9th century CE that is located northwest of Polur in Tamil Nadu, southeast India. The complex includes three Jain caves, two Jain temples and a sculpture of Tirthankara Neminatha thought to date from the 12th century CE that is the tallest Jain image in Tamil Nadu. Arahanthgiri Jain Math is also present near Tirumalai complex. History Tirumalai has been an important Jain center since ancient times. Arahanthgiri Jain Math is a Jain Matha established near Tirumalai in August 1998. The Math is headed by Bhattaraka Dhavalakeerthi. History History of Arahanthgiri Jain Math starts from the period of 322–185 BCE as the Last 'Shrutkevali' Bhadrabahu stayed there to practice meditation and "Swadhyaya" along with 8000 other saints. The Village Thirumalai where this Jain Math is located is also known as Arhatsugiri or Arihantgiri. This more than 2,000-year-old temple is near Tirumala. The complex is now managed by the Archaeological Survey of India. Main temple The 16-meter Neminath Idol is on the top of the hill, which has 140 steps. ''Thirumalai'' is a 2003 Indian Tamil-language romantic action film written and directed by Ramana and produced by Kavithalayaa Productions. The film stars Vijay and Jyothika, alongside Manoj K. Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal is a palace completed in 1636 by Tirumala Nayaka, a king of the Madurai Nayak dynasty, who ruled Madurai from 1623 to 1659. Tirumalai Krishnamacharya
Tirumala Krishnamacharya (18 November 1888 – 28 February 1989) was an Indian yoga teacher, ayurvedic healer and scholar. He is seen as one of the most important gurus of modern yoga, and is often called "Father of Modern Yoga" for his wide influence on the development of postural yoga. Like earlier pioneers influenced by physical culture such as Yogendra and Kuvalayananda, he contributed to the revival of hatha yoga. Krishnamacharya held degrees in all the six Vedic ''darśanas'', or Indian philosophies. Tirumala Nayaka (reigned 1623–16 February 1659) was the ruler of Madurai Nayak Dynasty in the 17th century. He ruled Madurai between 1623 and 1659. His contributions are found in the many splendid buildings and temples of Madurai. He belongs to Balija caste. His kingdom was under constant threat from the armies of Bijapur Sultanate and the other neighbouring Muslim kingdoms, which he managed to repulse successfully. Tirumalai Srinivasan
Tirumalai Echambadi Srinivasan (26 October 1950 – 6 December 2010) was a former Indian cricketer who played in one Test match and two One Day Internationals (ODIs) from 1980 to 1981. Srinivasan was born in Chennai. His father was famous Tamil actor T. E. Varadan. He was first noticed when he hit 112 for South Zone against North Zone in the Duleep Trophy in the 1977–78 season. A string of consistent performances, culminating in an innings of 129 in the 1980–81 Deodhar Trophy final and an unbeaten ton against Delhi in the Irani Trophy, earned him a place in the India squad for that season's tour of Australia and New Zealand. The ''Tirumālai'' () is a work of Tamil Hindu literature written by Tondaradippodi Alvar, comprising 45 verses. Each of these verses is regarded in popular tradition to be a flower, woven together to produce a garland for Ranganatha, a form of the deity Vishnu.
