Timothy Blair McLean
Surgeon Rear-Admiral Timothy Blair McLean, CD, CStJ, QHS (29 September 1910 – 28 June 1982) was the 21st Canadian Surgeon General. Born in Fairydell, Alberta, Blair McLean was educated at the University of Alberta, where he graduated with a Medical Degree. He also completed post-graduate surgical training “at the U.S. Naval Hospital, San Diego, California” from 1950 to 1952. McLean joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR) in 1929 “and served continuously in the naval reserve for the next 10 years.” At the beginning of the Second World War “he was called to active service as a surgeon lieutenant.” During the first half of the war, McLean “served as medical officer in the destroyers ''Ottawa'', ''Saguenay'', ''Fraser'' and ''Margaree'', surviving the sinking of the latter two.” For the remainder of the war, “he served in various medical appointments ashore and as Principal Medical Officer of (cruiser).” He joined the regular force in 1945 ... Sturgeon County is a municipal district the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada. It is north of Edmonton and west of the North Saskatchewan River. Sturgeon County is located in Division No. 11 and was named for the Sturgeon River. History In 1876, the Crown gained title to the land that would later become Sturgeon County in Treaty 6 with First Nations. The area was first settled in 1879. The first settlers were several francophone families. The ''Municipal District (MD) of Sturgeon River No. 90'' was originally incorporated on January 1, 1955 and became the ''County of Sturgeon No. 15'' on January 1, 1961. Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve
The Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR) was a naval reserve force of the Royal Canadian Navy, which replaced the Royal Navy Canadian Volunteer Reserve (RNCVR). Foundation The RCNVR was created in 1923. The organization was established by Rear-Admiral Walter Hose in a time when the Navy was under drastic budget cuts. Hose saw the establishment of a reserve force as a great way for the fledgling Canadian Navy to build support from coast to coast. Thus he established Naval Reserve Divisions in every major Canadian city. The initial authorized strength of the RCNVR was 1,000 all ranks. Fifteen Canadian cities were earmarked for a division. Most were to be of “Half-Company” strength, which was 50, all ranks.
