Timon Haugan
Timon Haugan (born 27 December 1996) is a Norwegian World Cup alpine ski racer who specializes in slalom. At the 2016 Junior World Championships, Haugan finished eleventh at best, but returned in 2017 and won the silver medal in the giant slalom. Haugan made his World Cup debut in December 2017 in Italy at Madonna di Campiglio, and also collected his first World Cup points with a 24th-place finish. His first podium (and first top ten) came in February 2020, as the runner-up in the slalom at Chamonix, France. Slalom Skiing
Slalom is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding discipline, involving skiing between poles or gates. These are spaced more closely than those in giant slalom, super-G, super giant slalom and Downhill (ski competition), downhill, necessitating quicker and shorter turns. FIS Alpine Ski World Cup
The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is the top international circuit of alpine skiing competitions, launched in 1966 by a group of ski racing friends and experts which included French journalist Serge Lang (skiing), Serge Lang and the alpine ski team directors from France (Honore Bonnet) and the United States Ski Team, USA (Bob Beattie (skiing), Bob Beattie). The men's overall in the 2018 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup involved 36 events in 5 disciplines: downhill (DH) (9 races), Super-G (SG) (6 races), giant slalom (GS) (8 races), slalom (SL) (11 races), and Alpine combined (AC) (2 races). Marcel Hirscher of Austria won the overall title for the seventh consecutive time. The International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup, the premier circuit for alpine skiing competition, began in January 1967, and the season marked the 54th consecutive year for the FIS World Cup. As it had every year since 2006 (when the Sölden races were cancelled by a snowstorm), the season began in Sölden, Austria in October. The season was supposed to end with the World Cup finals in March, which were to be held in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy for the first time since they began in 1993, but the finals were cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy. As part of an effort to control the expansion of the World Cup circuit while fighting increased specialization, the city events were dropped this season, to be replaced by more parallel events at regular venues, while the Alpine combined was expanded. Canalone Miramonti is a World Cup slalom ski course in Italy, in Madonna di Campiglio, Trentino. The course was designed by Italian Bruno Detassis in 1940. It is known as a slalom World Cup classic, being one of the oldest, the most demanding and one of the most prestigious slaloms in the world. The slope has maximum incline at 31 degrees (60%), average incline at 27% and minimum incline at 18%. Giant Slalom
Giant slalom (GS) is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding competitive discipline. It involves racing between sets of poles ("gates") spaced at a greater distance from each other than in Slalom skiing, slalom but less than in Super-G. Giant slalom and slalom make up the technical events in alpine ski racing. This category separates them from the speed events of Super-G and Downhill (ski competition), downhill. The technical events are normally composed of two runs, held on different courses on the same ski run. Course The vertical drop for a GS course must be for men, and for women.
