Delain is a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 2002 by former Within Temptation keyboardist Martijn Westerholt, intending for the band to be solely a project. Singer Charlotte Wessels was invited to join in 2005. In February 2021, the members parted ways while Westerholt stated he would continue the band as a solo project. In June 2021, Westerholt announced that there would be a new lineup involving former and new members, with Diana Leah later being announced as the new lead vocalist in August 2022. As of 2025, Delain have released seven studio albums, three EPs, one live album and nineteen music videos. David Martijn Westerholt (born 30 March 1979) is a Netherlands, Dutch musician and the founder, keyboardist and main songwriter of the symphonic metal band Delain. He was previously a member of symphonic metal band Within Temptation, until he was diagnosed with infectious mononucleosis shortly after the release of Within Temptation's second full-length studio album, ''Mother Earth (Within Temptation album), Mother Earth''. His brother Robert Westerholt, Robert is the guitarist and founder of Within Temptation. He has lived in Zwolle, since studying Communication studies, Communication at Christelijke Hogeschool Windesheim, Windesheim College in 1998. It was released in the Benelux and Germany on 1 June 2012 and in the United Kingdom and France on 4 June by CNR Music, who took over Delain when Warner Music refused to release ''We Are the Others''. It was released in the Benelux on 20 March 2009 and was released internationally on 30 March 2009 by Roadrunner Records. It was released in Australia on 10 April 2009. She has been performing since age 14, and co-founded Within Temptation with partner Robert Westerholt in 1996.
