Timm Aircraft Company
The O.W. Timm Aircraft Company was an American aircraft manufacturer founded by Otto William Timm, based in Los Angeles, California. History Between 1911 and 1922 O.W. Timm built several aircraft with varying success before he founded, in 1922, the O.W. Timm Aircraft Company. Timm manufactured six models of a parasol design, the Collegiate. In 1934 Otto and his brother Wally Timm joined to form a new company named the Timm Airplane Company to produce the Timm T-S140, a high wing twin engine aircraft using new features developed at NACA such as flaps and tricycle landing gear. Wally Timm formed his own Glendale based aviation company later on, the Wally Timm Inc. The company developed a "plastic" material made of resin and wood similar to the Duramold process. Grand Central Airport (United States)
Grand Central Airport is a former airport in Glendale, California. Also known as Grand Central Air Terminal (GCAT), the airport was an important facility for the growing Los Angeles suburb of Glendale in the 1920s and a key element in the development of United States aviation. The terminal, located at 1310 Air Way, was built in 1928 and still exists, owned since 1997 by The Walt Disney Company as a part of its Grand Central Creative Campus (GC3). Three hangars also remain standing. The location of the single concrete runway has been preserved, but is now a public street as the runway was dug up and converted into Grand Central Avenue. The terminal building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 27, 2017. Timm Aerocraft 2AS
The Aerocraft 2AS is a tandem-seat training aircraft developed from the Kinner Sportwing. Design and development Timm formed the Wally Timm Company in Glendale, California. He purchased the rights to the Kinner Sportwing, a side-by-side monoplane training aircraft and modified it as a tandem-seat trainer to compete for the Civilian Pilot Training Program build-up prior to World War II. The prototype received ATC# 733 on January 1, 1941. The Timm Aerocraft 2AS lost out to a Fairchild design. The design was sold to Aetna Aircraft, with only six examples produced. The Aerocraft is a conventional landing gear equipped, strut-braced, low-winged monoplane with open cockpit tandem seating and a Kinner R-5 radial engine. The fuselage is welded steel tubing with aircraft fabric covering. The wing uses wooden spars and ribs with fabric covering. The Kinner Sportster was a 1930s American light monoplane built by Kinner Airplane & Motor Corporation. Design and development The Kinner Airplane & Motor Corporation had been producing radial engines since 1919 decided to enter the light aircraft market. The first design was a single-seat low-wing monoplane the Kinner Sportster K with a fixed tailwheel landing gear. Further versions followed with different engines. The strut-braced, low-wing, open cockpit, conventional gear aircraft featured folding wings. In 1933, an improved version the Sportwing B-2 was introduced. An enlarged four-seat version was produced in 1935 as the Kinner Envoy. Kinner became bankrupt in 1937 and rights to the Sportster were acquired by the Timm Aircraft Company.
