''The Times-Journal'' newspaper is published twice a week in Fort Payne, Alabama and serves the DeKalb County, Alabama region. The Times-Journal was a Southern Newspapers publication for 60 years before selling to Patrick Graham in 2019, along with sister papers in Albertville and Scottsboro. The ''Times-Journal'' resulted from the merger in 1959 of the ''Fort Payne Journal'', first published in 1878, and the ''Times-New Era''. The latter newspaper was the product of the 1951 merger of ''The DeKalb Times'' and ''The Collinsville New Era''. Fort Payne, Alabama
Fort Payne is a city in and county seat of DeKalb County, in northeastern Alabama, United States. It is near Lookout Mountain. At the 2020 census, the population was 14,877. This city developed around a fort of the same name, built in the 1830s to intern the Cherokee tribe who were being rounded up by the military before being forcibly removed to Indian Territory in 1838 on what they called the Trail of Tears. European-American settlers gradually developed a community around the former fort. It grew rapidly in the late 19th century based on industrial resources, and manufacturing increased in the early 20th century. At the beginning of the 21st century, it still had 7000 workers in 100 mills producing varieties of socks, nearly half the world production. Rainsville, Alabama
Rainsville is a city in DeKalb County, Alabama, United States. At the 2010 census the population was 4,948, up from 4,499 in 2000. Rainsville is located on top of Sand Mountain, a southern extension of the Cumberland Plateau. History Rainsville was incorporated in October 1956. An EF5 tornado struck the city on April 27, 2011, leaving 25 fatalities. It initially touched down to the southwest in Lakeview, causing structural damage to small buildings and snapping trees. It grew in intensity, and the path width increased from around fifty yards to a half a mile, as the rotation entered the Rainsville and Sylvania communities. Damage included houses that were completely removed from foundations and debris scattered for about one mile, trees debarked, and a few mobile homes were destroyed with debris strewn for about a mile downstream.
