Strike action, also called labor strike, labour strike in British English, or simply strike, is a work stoppage caused by the mass refusal of employees to work. A strike usually takes place in response to employee grievances. Strikes became common during the Industrial Revolution, when mass labor became important in factories and mines. 2024 Boston University Strikes
The 2024 Boston University strikes were labor strikes in Boston, Massachusetts by graduate students and residential life workers at Boston University. The first strike began on March 25, 2024, ending October 17, 2024, and was organized by the Boston University Graduate Workers Union (BUGWU) labor union, which is affiliated with the Service Employees International Union Local 509. It was the longest strike the university has experienced since a 1979 strike which lasted two weeks and four days. A concurrent strike by the Boston University Residence Life Union (BU ResLife Union) labor union, also affiliated with SEIU 509, ran for four days starting on April 12, 2024. Tempi Train Crash
On 28 February 2023, a head-on collision occurred between two trains south of the Vale of Tempe, Tempe Valley in Greece, about halfway between the Greek villages of Tempi (municipality), Tempi and Evangelismos, Larissa, Evangelismos in the Thessaly region. The collision, follow-up derailment and fireball that ensued involving the InterCity 62 (IC62) passenger train operated by Hellenic Train and an intermodal freight train, killed 57, heavily injured 81 and lightly injured 99 people.
