Crowbar (American Band)
Crowbar is an American sludge metal band formed in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1990. The band is fronted by vocalist/guitarist Kirk Windstein, Crowbar's sole constant member. Infusing a slow, brooding doom metal sound with the aggression of hardcore punk, Crowbar along with other bands in the New Orleans heavy metal scene pioneered a style known as sludge metal, though Windstein himself has admitted a dislike for the term. The band has also covered songs from outside of their immediate genre; these include Gary Wright's " Dream Weaver" on '' Equilibrium'', Iron Maiden's "Remember Tomorrow" on '' Odd Fellows Rest'', and Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter" on '' Crowbar''. Ultrasonic Studios, New Orleans
Ultrasonic Studios was a music recording studio in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States. The studio was located on Washington Avenue in the Uptown neighborhood near Xavier University. It was established in 1977 by Jay Gallager and George Hallowell. The studio was sold to the two Grammy Engineers, David Farrell and Steve Reynolds, who ran the day-to-day operations. They co-owned the studio. In 2005, the studio suffered major damage from the levee failure disaster flood during Hurricane Katrina, and has not been back in operation since. According to Jay Gallager in a 2007 interview, the building has knocked down following the hurricane. There are no plans to rebuild the building or restore the studio elsewhere. Farrell and Reynolds have moved on to other career paths. Sludge metal (also known as sludge doom or simply sludge) is an Extreme metal, extreme subgenre of heavy metal music that combines elements of doom metal and hardcore punk. The genre generally includes slow tempos, down-tuned guitars and nihilistic lyrics discussing poverty, drug addiction and pollution. The sound of sludge metal has its origins in California hardcore punk bands in the early-to-mid-1980s like Black Flag (band), Black Flag, Flipper (band), Flipper and Fang (band), Fang, who began slowing their tempos and embracing the influence of Black Sabbath. The singles "All I Had (I Gave)" and "Existence Is Punishment" were played on MTV and received international attention. Besides its focus on punk subculture, it also covers similar genres, reviews of comics, books and films, and has included serial novels by authors such as Klaus N. Frick. By 2019, ''Ox'' had a circulation of 10,000 copies. History ''Ox-Fanzine'' was founded in 1988 by Joachim Hiller and Biggi Häußler in Heidenheim an der Brenz (Southern Germany).
