The Fresh & Onlys
The Fresh & Onlys are an American rock band. They were formed in San Francisco, California, United States, in 2008 by Tim Cohen of Black Fiction, bassist Shayde Sartin and guitarist Wymond Miles. A year later they recruited drummer Kyle Gibson.* They are a key band in what has been described as San Francisco's "new garage rock" movement, but their sound is equally aligned with pastoral psychedelia, brooding new wave, western twang, and jangly literate 1980s guitar pop. The band's catalog has found homes on several record labels including Woodsist, Captured Tracks, In The Red, Sacred Bones, and Castle Face. Their more recent work has been released by Mexican Summer including ''Long Slow Dance'', released in September 2012, followed by the ''Soothsayer'' EP in late 2013. Black Fiction
Black Fiction is an indie rock band from San Francisco, CA. History The band came about because of a friendship between multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, Tim Cohen and bassist Evan Martin. The two met in 1999 while working together, and would write songs during their lunch breaks. Over the years following their meeting, Cohen and Martin worked on numerous musical projects together, eventually getting an invitation to perform in the Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival. Unfortunately, their project at the time, Feller Quentin, no longer existed when the festival came around. Not wanting to miss out, Cohen and Martin convinced percussionist Jon Bernson to join the band with his friends, synth player Jason Chavez and keyboardist Joe Roberts. The newly formed band was called Black Fiction. Sonny Smith (musician)
Sonny Smith (born 1972) is an American musician, playwright and multimedia artist from San Francisco. He has released fourteen albums since 2000, largely with group Sonny & The Sunsets.. His work has variously encompassed blues, folk, pop and rock elements. AllMusic noted that his 2002 album, ''This Is My Story, This Is My Song'', lifted him from obscurity to cult status. Smith is a songwriter in the tradition of Ray Davies whose songs are often populated by characters with an emphasis on outcasts, weirdos, freaks, death, love and atypical transformation. They sometimes recall the 1950s era doo wop of The Falcons combined with the direct sincerity and positive spirit of Modern Lovers’ Jonathan Richman, the kitchen sink wisdom of Michael Hurley and the absurdity of The Hairy Who? art collective, as well as the dark confessional humor of cartoonists like Robert Crumb. Life and work Smith began playing blues piano in bars when he was seventeen years old. Skipping between the R ... Year Of Birth Missing (living People)
A year or annus is the orbital period of a planetary body, for example, the Earth, moving in its orbit around the Sun. Due to the Earth's axial tilt, the course of a year sees the passing of the seasons, marked by change in weather, the hours of daylight, and, consequently, vegetation and soil fertility. In temperate and subpolar regions around the planet, four seasons are generally recognized: spring, summer, autumn and winter. In tropical and subtropical regions, several geographical sectors do not present defined seasons; but in the seasonal tropics, the annual wet and dry seasons are recognized and tracked. A calendar year is an approximation of the number of days of the Earth's orbital period, as counted in a given calendar. The Gregorian calendar, or modern calendar, presents its calendar year to be either a common year of 365 days or a leap year of 366 days, as do the Julian calendars. For the Gregorian calendar, the average length of the calendar yea ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |
