Tikkakoski
Tikkakoski is an urban area (a '' taajama'') and a district of Jyväskylä, Finland, about north of the city center. Before 2009, Tikkakoski was part of Jyväskylän maalaiskunta. Having originally been part of Tikka-Mannila, Tikkakoski began to develop into a distinct industrial community around the 1890s. During the next century, the settlement continued to grow around industry and an air force garrison, which remained the largest employers in Tikkakoski until the early 1990s depression in Finland. After a decline in population due to the loss of jobs during the 1990s, Tikkakoski began to recover around the 2010s. The urban area, as defined by Statistics Finland, had a population of 4,094 on 31 December 2023. The official district of the city does not correspond to this definition. Tikka (brand)
was a Finnish company producing firearms and different consumer durables, most notably sewing machines. It was named after the Tikkakoski district in Jyväskylä, Central Finland where their factory was located. Their most known products were sold under the brand, which was purchased by SAKO in 1983. History The company was founded by Martin Stenij as a metal workshop next to the Jyväsjoki mill and saw, but experienced several bankruptcies and changes in ownership as a result. From 1927 to 1940 the company made the M27 rifle, a rebuild of the Mosin-Nagant for the Finnish Army. In 1930, the company was purchased by a German armsdealer Willi Daugs and the next year the production of the Suomi KP/-31 submachine gun was started. Tikka-Mannila
Tikka-Mannila or Tikkamannila is a village and a district of Jyväskylä in Finland, located east of the Tikkakoski urban area. It was part of Jyväskylän maalaiskunta until its disestablishment in 2009. The national road 4 passes through Tikka-Mannila. Tikka-Mannila was settled in the late 16th century, originally being part of the village of Vehniä in modern Laukaa. Tikka-Mannila consisted of a single farm until the mid-18th century. Starting in 1890, Tikkakoski began developing into a distinct industrial settlement, with Tikka-Mannila remaining a rural village. Names and etymology The name of Tikka-Mannila originally referred to a farm. Its original name may have been ''*Mannila'' after the Savonian surname ''Manninen'', first attested there 1585. Puuppola
Puuppola is a village and district of Jyväskylä, Finland, located in the northern part of the city between the urban areas of Palokka and Tikkakoski. Before 2009, it was a part of Jyväskylän maalaiskunta. The distance from Puuppola to downtown Jyväskylä is , while the distance to both Palokka and Tikkakoski is around . Historically known as Korttajärvi after a nearby lake, the village was settled around 1566. The modern village of Kuikka also developed from this initial settlement. Jyväskylän maalaiskunta (), 'The Rural Municipality of Jyväskylä' is a List of former municipalities of Finland, former municipality of Finland. The Air Force Academy (, abbr. ''ILMASK''; ) is located at Tikkakoski in Jyväskylä, Finland. The primary mission of the Air Force Academy is to train warfighting airmen who can carry out their missions even under the most strenuous conditions. This includes conscripts, active duty personnel, and special forces such as pilots, aircraft and helicopter mechanics, and air surveillance controllers. The Air Force Academy also trains conscripts for general military operations. The Finnish Air Force Museum (), formerly the Aviation Museum of Central Finland (), is an aviation museum located near Jyväskylä Airport in Tikkakoski, Jyväskylä, Finland. The museum exhibits the aviation history of Finland, from the early 1900s until today. The museum is owned by the Foundation of Aviation Museum of Central Finland (). The exhibition consists of aircraft, engines and aircrew equipment which has been used by the Finnish Air Force. The equipment of the Air Force Signals Museum has its own section. Jyväskylä Airport (; ) is an airport in Jyväskylä, Finland. It is in the center of the Finnish Lake District, about north of the center of Jyväskylä. The airport terminal was renovated in the fall of 2004. The Air Force Academy operations are stationed at the airport. The main campus of the Air Force Academy is about from the airport. The Aviation Museum of Central Finland is near the airport. History The airport was founded as an air-force base in 1939. The first commercial flight left the airport 6 years later in 1945. On August 2, 2010, Finncomm Airlines announced it will stop its service between Helsinki and Jyväskylä on August 16, 2010. However the break was very short as Finnair and Finncomm reached an agreement in September 2010 that Finncomm will take over several Finnair's domestic routes.
