Tikhomirov (crater)
Tikhomorov is the heavily eroded remains of a lunar impact crater on the Moon's far side. It lies to the northeast of the smaller crater Konstantinov, and to the southwest of Trumpler. Farther to the west-northwest is Mare Moscoviense ; ) is a lunar mare that sits in the Moscoviense basin. It is one of the very few maria on the far side of the Moon. Geology Like Mare Marginis, this mare appears to be fairly thin. However, it is clearly centered within a large impact basin. ..., one of the few maria on the far side of the Moon. This crater has been so heavily eroded by subsequent impacts that there is little to distinguish it from the nearby terrain. A slight depression in the surface and traces of the outer rim can be discerned, but it is otherwise identical to much of the remainder of the battered far side. JSC V.V. Tikhomirov Scientific Research Institute of Instrument Design (, , NIIP) is a joint stock company, one of the Russian enterprises in the development of weaponry control systems for fighter planes and mobile medium range anti-aircraft SAM defence vehicles. History The institute was created on March 1, 1955 as a branch of the Moscow NII-17 by the Ministry of Aircraft Industry of the USSR Council of Ministers (Resolution No. 2436-1005, September 18, 1954). In February 1956, the NII-17 branch was reorganized into an independent enterprise known as ''Scientific Research Institute for Instrumentation'', or NIIP. In 1994 the institute was named after his first CEO Viktor Tikhomirov. At present, NIIP is an enterprise with an industrial and economic infrastructure. The area occupied by the Institute is 42000 square meters.
