Tigon Film Distributors Ltd.
Tigon British Film Productions or Tigon was a film production and distribution company, founded by Tony Tenser in 1966. It is best remembered for its horror films, particularly ''Witchfinder General'' (directed by Michael Reeves, 1968) and ''The Blood on Satan's Claw'' (directed by Piers Haggard, 1971). Other Tigon films include '' The Sorcerers'' (1967), ''The Haunted House of Horror'' (1969) and ''Doomwatch'' (1972), based on the TV series of the same name. As the name of the company implies, a tigon appears in the logo. History Tigon was based at Hammer House in Wardour Street, London, and released a wide range of films from sexploitation (''Zeta One''), to an acclaimed television adaptation of August Strindberg's ''Miss Julie'' (1972) starring Helen Mirren. Dame Helen Mirren (; born Ilyena Lydia Vasilievna Mironov; 26 July 1945) is an English actor. Peter Sasdy (born 27 May 1935 in Budapest, Hungary) is a British film and television director. Ian Raymond Ogilvy (born 30 September 1943) is an English actor, playwright and novelist. Vernon Sewell
Vernon Campbell Sewell (4 July 1903 – 21 June 2001) was a British film director, writer, producer and, briefly, an actor. Sewell was born in London, England, and was educated at Marlborough College. He directed more than 30 films during his career, starting with ''Morgenrot (film), Morgenrot'' (1933) and ending with ''Burke & Hare (1971 film), Burke & Hare'' (1971). He worked chiefly in B-movies, some of which were, according to the BFI Screenonline, "well above the usual cut-price standards of film-making at this level." ''The Beast in the Cellar'' is a 1971 British horror film written and directed by James Kelly and starring Beryl Reid and Flora Robson. The authorities suspect a wild cat, but sisters Joyce and Ellie Ballantyne, who live in a house nearby, fear that the soldiers are actually being murdered by their brother Steven, who has been locked in their cellar for nearly 30 years. Joyce and Ellie discover that Steven has dug a tunnel out of the cellar, allowing him to come and go as he pleases. They also find the body of one of the soldiers.
